    This is a Hyundai ix35 diesel 2013.

It has a key fob and push button start system. This morning, despite the fob being able to open and lock the doors, the start button just flashed amber 5 times and nothing lit up. Same with the spare fob.

The recovery man couldn't do anything, but found a sweet spot on the steering column to hold the fob and got it started (after many attempts) Told me to get batteries changed in both fobs, which I did at the main dealer.

Needless to say it's still not working. They wanted me to leave it with them so they could run diagnostics which would cost an arm and a leg.

So I can get it going intermittently by holding the fob near this sweet spot, but it's a right faff needing many attempts.

Any ideas folks? @JamDrop I've ordered a multimeter coming from amazon tomorrow.

    Thanks.

Well done on the multimeter, you’ll go far in life! Just so you know, most cars can be manually started with the key, you just need to find where is it on your model. I know that’s not an ideal solution and you have a workaround at the moment but it is an option. I’ll have a Google about the problem and get you a fix shortly :D

You probably need to re-pair the key fobs. When I worked at BCA car auctions I used to get this all the time, sometimes you'd sit for ages moving the key about till you got it to start. I remember when we (Jaguar) brought out the first XF with keyless entry thinking it was a complete nonsense. I borrowed my boss's XF one weekend and whenever we left it I had to give the key to the wife or one of the kids while I walked back to the car to check it had locked itself....

Too much unnecessary technology just for the sake of it.

    Ok, some things to consider:

It’s not your car battery is it? (You can check this when you get your multimeter). As neither fob works properly it’s not going to be a fob problem.

There’s a high chance the problem is with your brake sensor.
