Just seen it on the news. The captain sent home and general condemnation all round. Am I the only one who thinks they shouldn't be so harshly judged? Maybe it was a bit insensitive when the rest of us are on lockdown but let's face it they can't social distance while on duty (in a submarine ffs) and it must be a high pressure job at the best of times so they should be allowed to socialise together while off duty.
Dont know the ins and outs but it doesn't sound unreasonable. As far as I m aware we're not in official mourning yet.
They are already in complete lockdown so no I don't have a problem with them socialising when off duty.
A few key points missing from the news The CO had already asked permission from the dockyard authorities but was refused, he went ahead anyway. A duty officer from the naval base went to see what all the noise was, she got told politely to F off as she wasn’t as senior as the CO. The dockyard regulations do not allow open fires so the CO moved the Bar B Q onto the submarines casing when questioned The naval base commander then phoned the CO after being briefed by the duty officer, The CO assured the commander they were packing away etc. as soon as the phone went down the party restarted. the CO was up in front of the commander the next morning in his best bib and tucker to get a bollocking
