Can't be right because Wigan fans say they are well run More positive signs for our case because the EFL would be in a Bury type mess if Wigan can't complete their fixtures next season.
If I was a Wigan fan I would be more concerned about having a club to support than worrying about what division they're in next season. Personally, I can see them folding and going out of existence - I hope I'm wrong but I think they need a miracle.
I wonder if they would also have to pay bonuses for staying up if they succeeded? The closer it gets to Friday without them having a buyer, surely the less likely it becomes they will proceed with the appeal. The buyer needs to be able to guarantee funds without knowing how much is needed because they don’t know which division they’ll be in and if the administrators can’t pay £1m in salaries and have £500k set aside for the appeal in the next two weeks they lose pretty much all of their assets for nothing?
For context, always worth looking at the name of the author. That said, it seems that the appeal could be doing more harm than good to the chances of getting a new owner. If they do win the appeal, and stay up, they'll be able to get a higher fee for a couple of players, but the costs that the new owner would have to cover also increase significantly. And they seem to be asking people to make commitments without knowing what they'll be getting themselves into.
It's not looking good for Wigan. I would say the necessity of admin is getting clearer by the day, which can only be good for Barnsley.
I know its Nixon and its the Sun but this line seems quite plausible and does beg the question why keep going with the Appeal. It looks to be much easier to buy the club if they are definitely down The administrators want around £7-8m from the new owner who will also have to show funds for two years to the EFL. Ironically that number has dropped since relegation, with around £20m needed to hold in reserve.
Wigan wouldn't have been anywhere near the top two divisions if it wasnt for a local lad bankrolling them to be fair. They had two seasons in the mid 90s where they had average attendances of under 2,000 and have performed for most of their history at the arse end of the football league. Presented with a blank cheque and a new stadium, it was never going to last - they haven't the crowds or the history so they're going to be a hard sell to potential buyers. Bournemouth are an other example, let's see how they now cope with big contracts and the championship.
I think they're both bigger clubs than us - Wigan were in the prem for years pretty recently and won the FA Cup, and Bournemouth have only just dropped out after years in the prem. That makes them bigger clubs... BUT they're the encouragement that a club the size of Barnsley could go and achieve something great
I dont see either of them as a bigger club. For a period of time maybe, but as regards support over the years then no
Bournemouth have had 5 years in the Premier League paid for by some Russian who broke FFP (I think) but other than that? They don’t have great support and didn’t get into the second tier until 1987!
Depends on what you think makes a big club doesn't it! To me, on-field achievements in recent years are a big part of it.
Okay, so there’s no one definition. By that reasoning Bournemouth are bigger than Leeds Utd, Portsmouth, Sunderland, West Brom and others. Not the way I’d define it but you’re entitled to your opinion!
Nixon doesn’t know his arse from his elbow in the main. However, he seems to have good sources in the North West, considering he has a disproportionate number of rumours regarding Bolton and Wigan. I don’t doubt this report.
Based on recent success they have both achieved more than us. But both have been bankrolled for that success, both get smaller gates than us, and neither are footballing towns. Wigan arent even the biggest club in wigan.
11,000 (i know that's all ground holds) but bigger then us i don't think so. Done miles better recently but Sunderland, Leeds, Portsmouth to name a few who arnt up there now are far bigger clubs then Bournemouth.
