Does anyone on here have any experience of living in Norway? My lad moves out there shortly and I was wondering what he might expect.
    Thanks in advance.

Apparently, he'll need a lot of money as its supposedly very expensive...

That's about all I've got though :D hope he has a great time out there, bud.

Not sure about Norway, but I work with a lot living in Denmark and Sweden. A lot will depend on which part of the country. Life in Oslo would probably be similar to a city here - maybe Edinburgh, Cardiff or even Sheffield - but quite expensive. Life in Bodo or another small town would be like living in a remote town in Scotland - just colder in Winter :)

My wife was seconded there for work for two months. Batshit crazy expensive, very cold and damp even in summer, very short opening times for shops, especially those selling booze, not much to do once you've done a few fjords and waterfalls. The fjords are utterly magical, something everyone should visit once in their lives. But other than that, I found it painfully boring.

Oslo felt much smaller and quieter to me than those cities. Apart from on a Friday when all the local teens are falling around the city, vomiting because they're so drunk. They're all very polite though. Norwegians are the most mild-mannered pissheads on the planet.

Visited Oslo and Kristiansands - that is an amazing place. As others say, not exactly happening but beautiful.

Did a week working in Oslo back in 2007. In December.

It didn't get light until 11am and it was dark again by 3pm.

It snowed all the time but the public services just worked and the pavements were clear. The council came out at all hours with what looked like big hairdryers and just cleared it.

Crazy expensive. It was 8 quid a pint, 16 years ago.

I expect that to live there, you'd need a decent wage, will pay a lot of tax, but have some of the best living standards and public services in the world.

Oh, and buy a bottle of gin/booze at Heathrow on the way out, you can buy proper cheap DFs now we've left the EU. Gin in Norway is £40 for 70cl.
