Two carriages isn't enough at normal times and you never see three carriages.

 

Agree we could do with extending the platform at Barnsley rail station but I’m sure we’ve had more than two carriage trains stop there .
The fact it’s same length as Wombwell and Chapeltown needs addressing if that’s the case .

 

What ever happened to football specials? Long trains pulled by a locomotive, not these 2 or 3 carriage buses on rails. Direct Service between Huddersfield and Barnsley. Too obvious a solution really.

The problem is though all the drunken idiots can’t be trusted not to cause trouble on these specials, so they will never come back.

 

One) that's "newspaper" likes to stir the pot.

Two) I was in the station going the other way after the match. Northern Rail mucked up big time.

It was all quite calm until a 6? carriage train came in to the station on platform one (at the time the Sheffield train was due). It went straight through, turned round and came onto the Huddersfield platform. This in itself caused a bit of banter and caused cross platform chanting. Whilst relativity calm, things did then get a bit out of hand and I saw someone swing an arm. This would not have happened had the Sheffield train been on time - or even had the Huddersfield train been on the platform waiting.

What's more is why we, don't get the extra resource when we're playing Huddersfield away? Or for that matter, the Sheffield clubs when they are playing us.

Why isn't it managed better so people getting off at stops before Hudderfield (or Sheffield for that matter) can get off easily?
Why isn't it managed to that people can get home?
Why do people have to swing a punch?

Whilst I'm on this rant, why is the rail way bridge safe enough for 4000k Huddersfield fans, but not for a couple of thousand home fans for an early round league cup match ?

Why did it take me about 3 bleeding hours to get home in the freezing cold and rain. I'm a grumpy sod.

 

Years back, Sheffield fans queued up outside the station on the land which is now overgrown waste land. They were out of the way of the none footballing public and let on the train without a scramble which is what it's become when you fill in the platform.
This also helped none football people get on the train and made it easier to manage.

 

With the Transport Police presence, I would have thought this was easier to manage.

 

There were (potentially) plenty of drunken idiots on the football specials of the day to be fair. They had local police onboard them though which kept any hint of trouble to a minimum.
They were a great mode of transport to away games at the time, I travelled on loads. It was a sad day when they got stopped, I think due to vandalism by fans of a few 'reputation' clubs at the time.
Sadly, there's no way they'll ever be brought back, for a number of reasons.

 

Same happened coming back from Huddersfield on our last visit there when fans were allowed. Everyone crammed into two carriages.

 

They just cause trouble on normal carriages with members of the public on them instead.

 

Precisely and people wonder why football fans are treated so badly. Because of the Neanderthals whose only purpose on a match day is to get drunk as early as possible, and keep topping it up during the day, ordinary decent people will never be able to go about their business unmolested or unrestricted (I include football fans and non-football fans in that of course).

That's hard to believe. I reckon it could take 6 carriages.

Also, I went one Saturday morning last year from Barnsley to Wakefield, and we were all crammed into ONE carriage! It was massively overcrowded, a bad experience.

Barnsley unfortunately has always been a backwater in terms of rail service.

 

Now THAT is how to arrive on match day. I hope they didn't travel all the way down from Barnsley on those though

 

Two points.

1) A post match train was two trains coupled together. I am sure it was six carriages, but certainly 4 or more
2) I went to Cleethorpes the other day and they had 6 carriages which were too long for a number of stations including Meadowhall. It didn't matter, they just told you in advance to move to the carriage you could get off of.

 

Back in the days of loco and coaches. They used to shuffle carriages along.

 

That would work fine for ordinary people but the morons swigging from cans all the way would not hear the announcement would they, and would therefore start smashing up the carriage when they thought they were locked in.

 

That is a fair point, but what would assume the majority of them were going to the ultimate destination.

 

The platform is plenty long enough for more than 3 coaches at least 6 and the platforms could and should be extended now the crossing is shut

 

Sure there was an extra train on going back to Huddersfield- came in about 20 past five - usually leaves just after the hour.

 

Saturday night was a fücking disaster. My toes are still cold enough to snap off.

As I said to you at the time, this is how you fall out of love - not overnight, but the drip-drip of small things does for you: a four million mile detour, someone rifling through my bag, a closed stand, delayed trains, cold, wet, two wins by the start of December, late trams, lukewarm chips, aggressive fans (ours and whoever else's.)

Each, alone, is a minor annoyance, and not all of those things are the club's problem to solve. But they, regardless, constitute my matchday experience.

If it wasn't for you and Damian, I'd be fücking it off.
