The article feels extremely staged and words just fed to him. It may be a case that his English isn't great (we'll see) so rather than being tripped up, they want to put the parroted version out. Because lets face it... how on earth could he know how passionate or not Barnsley fans are? And why on earth would he think the board and fans and players and coaches all need to come together? Feels completely false and forced. Not to mention the sly digs at Stendel as this new bod is fully on board with the approach. Just contempt, spin and more BS.
Yes guys but it's Conway I want to hear from, because some things don't seem to be panning out as he promised.
Again, if this feels scripted then surely Stendel's was scripted too? Funnily enough, when we appointed Morais and Johnson there were no comments from the Head Coach in the official statement. Which would you prefer? He said: “I am very happy to join Barnsley Football Club and I am happy with the faith, trust and belief shown to me from everyone here in advance of me starting the role. I’m fully motivated and excited to get going, I am ready to meet the players and fans during pre-season. “Over the last couple of days I got the feeling that the responsible people within the club have the same vision about playing the game as I have. I get the overall feeling that everything is fitting together, we’re all thinking in the same direction and that was a main reason for me signing. I’ve got the view that the way in which I want to reach success, is mirrored by the people in charge. That is really important and made my decision an easy one. It’s really important to want to be successful, but if you only want to be and don’t have a plan of how to be, it won’t work. At Barnsley there is a plan, that is very clear and it becomes a pathway to success.”
Of course it was scripted!!!! He couldn't speak English! I'd prefer a press conference and merely talk like a human being and answer questions honestly. Wouldn't you?
“Now is a time for everyone to pull together, the board, the management team, the squad, the wider club staff and of course our passionate supporters. If we can do this together, we can keep this club in this league. Distateful. I suspect the Boardroom conversation went something like: DM: "Now might be a good time for us to re-open communication with the the fans." PC: "No, sod them." DM: "It would be a real opportunity to recognise their feelings, talk about the future and try to begin the process of rebuilding the relationship." PC: "Nope. Let's play some games with 'em. First, put a 21 word statement on twitter. Then include something in the new guys statement to blackmail them to stop being stupid and get back on board." Doing this together my ar*e!
Like 99% of player/managers’ first interviews when joining a new club. They all pretty much say the same thing.
