On some of the RAF Stations that I was on we had exercises, or war games if you like, practicing what would happen if the Russians were coming over the hill. Sometimes it was a full blown Taceval, or the lesser Mineval, or even just a short Station exercise lasting a single day. The Distaff would throw little scenarios at you, depending on what you were guarding or where you were working. These could involve dealing with casualties or major incidents to do with the ongoing "war". The injury makeup was frightening sometimes! Sometimes, though, something real would happen - a genuinely injured person or an event that needed everyone to stop the exercise temporarily and deal with an actual problem. The order that came down the line in these instances was prefaced with "NO DUFF". That was the signal that everyone understood that we should switch from exercise mode to normal duties. This just crossed my mind last night night as the saga went on, and on, and on and we knew that there was no Duff to think about any more
