He was the star for Chelsea. Scored the winner, could have had four. Real gawky teenager in his interview afterwards. Can’t believe he would be our number nine a couple of years later.

Viv Anderson getting the monkey chants and Kenny Burns playing for Forest as well.

Last I heard, Aylott was a cabbie in London and had been for several years.
Wonder what his football wage was then compared to what he’d earn today.

Mind you he’ll be getting more from taxiing than he would in Yorks

Yes, I've seen the recent reports about him, and an interview with him a few years ago. Shame that he dropped out of the game but I suppose that happens to most professional footballers and he wasn't around when they were earning ridiculous amounts of money.

What I found most interesting, apart from seeing him for the first time in a Chelsea shirt, was the brief account of where he had come from when interviewed by Brian Moore alongside his manager. He said he learned the game as a boy just kicking around the back streets and waste lands of Bermondsey and never actually got on a football pitch until the age of 11 (I think he said 11). He then progressed through the junior ranks at Stamford Bridge before, on this day, scoring against the great Peter Shilton. He looked good in the extended highlights and, as I said, I am surprised that we managed to get him not too long after. The fee was only about £50,000 as well. I imagine now that a Chelsea starlet like that would cost us millions.

Anyway, it was great to see the early days of a player who would become one of our best ever centre forwards. I enjoy watching these programmes from the 1970s but can't help noticing how much quicker the modern game is, even at lower levels. First Division players then looked a bit ponderous but, obviously, the skill was there as well.

Here's big Trev, talking very positively about his time with us/Burnsley, compared to when he was a kid at Chelski lol.
But his accent is just horrible!!. :D
