Have you watched an NFL game? The reason they wear helmets and shoulder pads and rugby players don't is pretty obvious.

Have to agree to disagree then. I'm not a fan of either sport, but having watched both, the tackling techniques appear a lot less dangerous in rugby. Experts may want to correct me here, but I believe that many nfl teams are trying to adopt a style of tackling used in rugby in order to eradicate serious injuries.

Got to say, in my opinion, which is partly formed by my trying to find amusement in it and failing... American football is dull, there is more time spent swapping players about and pontificating than actual play. Each play is performed by the coaches pawns. Each player does not have to think and react and create the fluidity and flare of a real football game, they merely follow the script of the coach. It is designed for ultimate burger and hot dog eating, and maximum revenue from marketing... even more so than the premier league.
I wanted to find it interesting... and failed.

Money would have been better spent putting on league one highlights.....

I've posted before about this ....an average game of Gridiron is approx 3 hours in length, but the ball is only actually in play for around 11 minutes
If that's anyone's idea of sporting entertainment, then God help em
