Nobody's been close to going into admin for a while. Who's going to be next? Brighton / Bristol City? Both with huge footballing debts and obviously spending far more on players than their income should allow. Do FFP rules actually apply to these clubs? Leeds - reportedly in another pickle, with a madman in charge and quite a rubbish team. Blackburn - got to feel sorry for their fans. Run by chicken farmers, and it shows. If they come down and don't go straight back up, I envisage trouble ahead for Bournemouth.
Brighton are always going to be on the brink - I'd never be comfortable picking up a load of supporters on the back of building a nice new ground who didn't really support the club much in the past. They're gambling on going up like many others have tried in the past - and it doesn't really work.
I have a lot of mates who support Forest and they're very worried about things in general. However, they have had a good start to the season, and have just sold a player for £13 million, which shouldn't do too much harm. Obviously this doesn't mean that their overall strategy is any good.
It will probably take a so-called 'big' club to fold for anything really to be done about finances in English football. The money hasn't made any difference to how our clubs compete in Europe, you just have a load of average foreigners with good agents who are clamouring to get here for the money which has completely destroyed our national team - looking at Allardyce's first England squad yesterday I was underwhelmed that it just seemed to be the same old players again, but then I realised, that's all we've got!
Brighton and Bristol both have rich owners who take an interest in the club. Blackburn are badly run and relegation fodder with big debts , so I'd pick them
Unfortunately it makes no difference. Portsmouth were a big club, with a large fan base, but poorly managed. They were on the brink and are now making their way back. But no one has taken any notice, at least in the championship. Clubs still throwing money trying to get the golden ticket. I'm with those who wish Chelsea, Man City and the like would foxtrot Oscar to a European league, and maybe then we'd get some sort of sanity back in the game. You can tell I'm in a lousy mood can't you.
