Hope they put on a good display. They have had a journey over the years. Never a fashionable club, even in Wales. In their day Wrexham were probably the team, that always won the Welsh Cup & got into the Cup Winners Cup. Will probably be a drubbing, but I hope not.
Matty James making his first appearance of the season after injury. Bound to be going out on loan to somebody.
Nick Townsend on Newport’s bench too isn’t he? Be interesting to see how Matty does. Very good player.
Good game for the neutrals that was. Well done Newport. Puel didn't show them the respect they deserved by fielding a weakened team. Got everything he deserved, absolutely nowt.!
that's what the Magic of the FA cup is all about. Ok so the Leicester side was not their normal turn out, but they still had some top players on the field. Newport were the best team by way of their work and application. The goal from open play was superb and the penalty was a stone wall one , and taken with coolness and precision. I hope they get a reward and get another premier side in the next round.
It was worse than that. We drew 0-0 away, then drew again at home in the replay (1-1 iirc). In those days this meant another replay at a neutral ground. In its wisdom the FA sent us to Old Trafford where about 3000 hardy souls/idiots saw us lose 2-0. I think Rhyl were in the Cheshire League. I was one of the idiots. I went to all 3 games
I was another. We supported through thin and thin in those days. Was it about four years later we lost to Marine?
Firstly, absolutely brilliant from Newport County. Great effort, no little skill, loads of endeavour and I loved the fact that their first goal was a good old fashioned cross and header. It is still allowed these days, not everything has to be about 85% possession and tika taka no matter what the Premier league purists believe. Leicester though. They have a more than capable squad which won't be anywhere near a relegation scrap. They won't be top 6 either, so basically they're playing half a season hoping to be around 8th place. Why would Claude Puel put a weakened side out against Man City's reserves in the League Cup QF and then another weakened side out today? It's showing complete disregard for the cup competitions. With Leicester's squad it is perfectly possible that a cup final could have been on the cards, very attainable. Surely that'd be worth more than finishing one place higher in the league? The Premier League seems to be the be-all-and-end-all for too many clubs. Money over memories and finances over dreams. I think it also speaks volumes about the actual quality of many of the fringe players picking up extortionate wages whilst showing they aren't actually very good.
Absolutely agree. This "we don't want to take the risk of trying to win trophies" attitude in modern football is pathetic.
Did'nt see any results till this morning UNBELIEVABLE not only the NEWPORT result but well done BARNET and OLDHAM.
