    The Amsterdam Court Hotel is my rec.
    Its on West 50th street in Broadway district, central to everything, a few blocks from times square, its reasonably priced, its a 3 star hotel but you wouldn't think it. The rooms aren't massive, but they are clean and comfortable, but lets face it, you won't be spending the majority of your stay stuck in the hotel will you...

    We stayed in the Henry Norman in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Much prefer it to Manhattan. Stacks of independent shops, restaurants, breweries and a winery. Not a McDonald's in sight. And the hotel is incredible.

    Hotel Metro 36 street near Macy's is great.

    You even get a breakfast included in the price and it has an upstairs terrace overlooking the Empire State Building where you can have a few bevys.

    We stayed at the Distrikt. Great location, staff were really nice and free coffee or hot cider in the lobby.

    We had a week there last year. Terrific hotel - really helpful staff. Great location and even a couple of bongo stores right by the hotel - had fun explaining to the kids what they were.....

    Totally depends on what kind of trip you're going on, but if you're looking for no frills, good standards, and an amazing location, then you can't go wrong with The Jane.

    I'd be tempted to search Air BnB though. Far better than hotels in this day and age.

    Anyone any advice on the attractions, l'm going there this Christmas and this is the only thread l could find in a search. Anyone got any attraction tickets advice or what to see besides the main attractions? been told:

    - Rockefeller viewing at sunset/Empire States at Night also been advised the other way round!
    - Any shows to buy the tickets outside they're going for a lot cheaper
    - Don't bother with the Trade Centre viewing platform
    - Buy some sort of multi-ticket before you go, there's a few out there

    I've seen some of the best advice on here from our American fans.

    We got a New York pass which covers empire both in the day and night so long as you go on the same day.

    You hae to do the 9/11 memorial. Most morbid place on earth as you'd imagine, but at the same time, some parts are extremely moving.

    Philadelphia is only 2 hours drive away too. We went as my missus' brother lives there. Did all the standard touristy stuff, mostly related to Rocky.

    We stayed at 'the Row NYC'. Very basic, but clean. Smack bang in the middle of everything. Broadway, MSG, Times Square, Central Park, the Rockerfella and the Empire State are all less than 15 mins walk away.
