I demand an immediate 3 point deduction for both clubs. Seriously though, hope they throw the book at the person/s responsible
Sunderland security is hardly blameless here though - the fact someone was able to get a flare into the ground and then launch it isnt so good. I am not sure what Portsmouth can do to prevent a moron who claims to support them committing a criminal act at an opposition ground. that said 3point deduction to Pompey and a 1 point deduction to Sunderland would be just fine
Knuckle dragger. What kind of a moron thinks it's ok to do that? Still some will defend his actions and say it was just exuberance. No pyro, no party.
Especially as only 2 games previous to that there were multiple instances of Coventry fans throwing bags of **** and anything else they could think of over the edge down into the Sunderland fans below them. You would have thought their security at the turnstiles would have been been ramped up several notches for this one.
As an aside isn't putting away fans in the top tier of a stand so they can lob stuff down on the fans below a lot more potentially dangerous than say splitting a single tier stand and having a line of seats and stewards between them?
What at the moment seems to have been totally overlooked was the melee involving several players at the final whistle. OK it originally seemed to only involve Sunderlands No 12 ( Flanagan) and Portsmouths No 20 (Thompson), but then more players from each side became involved. Don't know if I am correct, but it looked like Kenny Jackett who was attempting to calm things down, got thrown to the floor. I believe the least that should have happened was both players should have been booked for starting it. If that had happened, Portsmouth's Thompson who had been booked earlier, would have got a red card and a ban.
Sounds reminiscent of an old Rangers v Celtic derby. ! My cousin had the " pleasure" of attending one once . He is a football fan and as part of his training as a Catholic priest, they sent him to Glasgow for a brief period. The Rangers supporters were apparently lobbing large baking potatoes with sharpened six inch nails pushed through them in amongst the Bhoys fans. He unfortunately saw a couple of young kids with pretty bad looking lacerations to their faces being passed over to the St Johns attendants. Celtic fans were of course lobbing them back. I was absolutely horrified when he told me, but my cousin who was born in Derry, had seen far worse during "the troubles." He thought it might be a testing day, when a colleague told him not to wear his dog collar that particular afternoon. What a wise man. He now has his own Church in the Midlands and is a season ticket holder at the King Power Stadium. Don't know if the atmosphere has changed down the years, but the hatred which is all down to religion, still unfortunately exists.
Pompey will end up with a minimum fine no points deducted. Sunderland no points deducted no fine. Barnsley £10m fine 12 points deducted. Told to play all games behind close doors next season, and forefit this season's playoffs 3 match bans to our usual suspects.
Crazy, it reminds me of a visit to Swillsbro in 1983 (1-0 to the Reds, Glavin) we were standing in the Leppings Lane end and my mate was hit by a coin thrown from the seats above us. If he hadn't been wearing glasses he might well have lost an eye.
Anyone go to Maine Road in 93 ? Coins raining down on us the entire game ... I suspect those cleaning the terraces retired that day with all the money they picked up
I don't think we're in a position at barnsley to point fingers at any other clubs security. Last 2 seasons I watched plenty of away fans get flares in oakwell Leeds,Wednesday, forest, blades ect even our own fans in the ponty were letting them off. When we played millwall at Wembley I saw plenty of flares set off outside and after the game inside the stadium . It's hard to stop 1 in every thousand or so people bringing flares in. But I agree putting away fans on top tier is never a good idea. Reading the Sunderland forum there was plenty of pompey in the Sunderland home ends too.
We have our own share of numpties. Maybe some will be at Bristol, maybe even in the home end. Wonder what any repercussions of trouble, flares, etc etc will be if things spill over there.
