I have multiple 30+ random character passwords with letters, numbers, capitals and symbols that I remember no problem, but I have no idea what my NI number is. I very rarely have to use it, I suppose.
I'm exactly the same. I can remember passwords for so many things, clocking in numbers from various jobs etc but no idea what my NI number is. Same reason as you though, I reckon I've used it 5 times in my life.
When I pressed 'no' and saw that I was the only 1 out of 10 that had said no, I had a bit of an existential crisis, so I'm glad I'm not actually alone in that...
My kids find it bizarre that I can never remember my mobile number but know this t They dont know theirs by heart I dont think.
That's why I asked because almost everyone I've asked knows theirs. I did sort of hope it was because I know a lot of people who have claimed benefits and figure they must need theirs much more often but I don't think it can be that in reality. I'd love to know why most people seem to know it and how often they use it
Not really had to claim benefits, I think it just sort of stuck in my head when I have had to use it.
I've been working since before I left school. Even through college and uni I always had a job. never claimed benefits. So from my sample size of 1, I'm going to say that your reasoning is exactly correct
Brilliant wi numbers. (NI included) But for the life of me the house number I ring most, is my eldest's and invariably get 2 digits wrong way round. Infuriates the missus.
Extremely rare that I use it, but for some reason I have always managed to memorise it. The day I forget it I think I will start to worry.
Never claimed benefits but always remember my NI number for some reason. Must be same reason that I remember my mum's old co-op number which hasn't been used for 60 years. However, I haven't a clue what my passport number or driving licence number are.
N I number - yes Mobile phone - no Bank card - yes (although sometimes unsure re security code on the back)
The reason I remember mine is because I made a conscious effort to the day it arrived as my mam said it was important and not to lose the card. I’m great at numbers and postcodes etc. so if I decide to remember it, I will.
I do but only because I started using them as lottery numbers back when the lottery started and they just stuck from then
You may find that its people of a certain age group. The ones brought up with ROTE methods of learning probably!
I dont know mine but I can recognise it if its in front of me. Its on my pay slips and its also autofilled on my tax return every year - I think they are the only places I actually see it though. I think I last had to actually give it to someone last time I changed job and thats some time ago
My NI number was the 2nd number I had to remember when I was given it in 1966. We didn't get a card back then. The other number was my Mothers Coop number.
