11 year old black Labrador. Last Monday and Tuesday she stopped eating and her tummy was swollen. Got her down to the vets on Wednesday who told us it was bad and syphoned off a vial of blood from her tummy to show us. She still walked back to the car. Rushed her to main vets in Barnsley and left her for analysis and received a phone call saying it was probably a ruptured, cancerous spleen and would we like to have her euthanized. After much thought we said 'no' and asked them to operate if they could. We went to say our last tearful goodbyes to her just in case. They operated. Drew off over a litre of blood, checked her lungs and heart and liver for obvious signs of cancer and removed her spleen. She then had a blood transfusion. She survived the op and fought so well that we picked her up on Thursday. She's had painkillers and antibiotics. Her blood count is now up and, to cut a long story short, we had a phone call from the vet today to say that the tumour on the spleen which she had was benign and she's in the clear. She's now running about, shouting and playing like a puppy. I am well chuffed!! What a dog! Just sharing for all you dog owners!!
This is an amazing, touching story to share, thank you, they mean so much, still miss ours dearly. So glad she's doing well, great news, it brought a tear.
Great news, enjoy all the good times still to come, an well done for sticking with it in such a difficult time.
She looks grand. Really nice to read your story. I was a shell of a bloke when our Lab had to go to sleep three years ago. Honestly, it broke me. A few weeks later, our new Lab bounced into our lives and I genuinely couldn’t live without him.
Overwhelmed with joy for you !!!! They are our reason to live when they are so special to us. Hope your doggy keeps improving, but must take it nice and steady. Love from us all, including Bella and Finch.
