Was in August 1976. We won 1-0, with our goal coming in the first half from a typical Alistair Millar free kick and was the first game of the '76/'77 campaign. We played in our new away kit, which was similar to the one worn by Chelsea in the 1970 FA Cup Final Replay (blue shirts & shorts, yellow socks).
That was the first time I'd seen us win on the opening day away from home. The only other time we've done that since was at West Bromwich Albion, August 1996, where we won 2-1.
I'll certainly accept a repeat of the 1976 result tomorrow night.

Loved Ali Millar! Proper roly poly ball player.

Remember him scoring a free kick against Donny at Belle Vue around that time. Think it finished 2-2.

Let’s hope we see the last and winning away goal at Griffin Park tomorrow.

Just in case you can't pick up the vibes, I'm squinting at the screen and wondering if I should call your bluff or just fold and avoid the embarrassment. :)

The goal against Donny was in September 1978 (you're correct with the scoreline and we came back from being 2-0 down fairly early on) and was just like the one against Brentford.

I was there for that one. We came away unhappy because we felt that Rovers were there for the taking at the end, and we went a bit negative for the last 5 minutes. Great free kick though, no denying that.

My one and only trip to Griffin Park was in the late 1970s. I worked with a Brentford fan at the Joint Warfare Establishment, Old Sarum and he invited me to go with him knowing I was a Barnsley fan. We sat in that tiny upper tier behind the goal and I think we lost 2-0.

His name was Ian Rush. No, not THAT one!

I was at that game, too. April 1978. We played in all white that day. I was stood right next to the players' tunnel. Three days later on the Tuesday night, we lost 2-0 at home to Swansea (Robbie James got both their goals). Those two results against promotion rivals brought to an end our promotion push. On the following Thursday, Jim Iley resigned as Barnsley manager and took up the post at Second Division Blackburn Rovers.

Tomorrow's game evokes memories of similar circumstances against Brentford at Oakwell when we
needed to win to avoid relegation. I'm not sure but it must have been around 2003.
Always remember we had signed a very promising forward from Arsenal ( can't remember
his name), who up to that point, had flattered to decieve. In what proved to be a very tense
affair, he nabbed a goal in a well deserved 1-0 win and we stayed up.

Here's hoping that history repeats itself tomorrow and that all the results in the other games
affecting our ability to stay up, go in our favour

My first trip was 1st May 1993; I was 14. It was the ground that completed the 92 club for me and my Dad; we’d got to about 50 odd watching Barnsley a couple of years earlier but then decided that when Barnsley we’re away and we’d already been to the ground we’d do a neutral stadium to get to the 92 club.

Anyway - someone let BFC know it was our final ground and we ended up in the directors box for the game, presentation on the pitch and stuff. We won the game 3-1 with a hat-trick from Gareth Williams. I’ve still got a little plate that we got presented with on the day.

I was going to Brentford one time in the early 90s. Except on the Friday night, I got engaged. So we headed to Barnsley instead. All I can say, is that I should have gone to Brentford. And we lost that day.

I've been to Brentford once. We drew 1-1 and that's all I can remember. No idea who scored , what year etc apart from it was pre the glory years of Clarke & Hunter.

My first and only trip was in the 1976/77 season. As a student, I was on a 1 month Inter-Rail holiday with 2 mates. On Thursday before the game we were in Oslo, Norway. We were scheduled to go home on Saturday, but I'd miss the match. After agonising about it, I thought "B0llox to it" and got on the train 2 days early on my own. After a multitude of trains through Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Belgium and France, and the Calais-Dover ferry, I finally arrived in London on Friday evening and crashed at a mate's house. On Saturday I ended up at Griffin Park. Worst match ever, we lost 2-0 and had a bloke sent off.

It's still the furthest I've ever travelled to an away match. Well, apart from Plymouth...

The last match of the original Allan Clarke era? It was late September/early October and Ian Banks scored our goal.

I thought we were in the 4th Division but thinking about it again, I vaguely remember Banger scoring so it probably was that one,
My memory's garbage when it comes to football. I think I've been to too many matches although having said that, I can remember the odd game as clear as a bell e.g. Barry Thomas scoring in the first minute against Donny Rovers in front of 11,000 for a 1-0 win. The human brain is a complex thing.
