I walked down from Brinckman Street. Never got offered a poster. Sat in ESU very few people near me had one and those who did didn't have a clue what to do with them (or when to do whatever they were supposed to do). Rule 1 of protest - get organised no?
The Conway Out group is just a platform for angry folk to type angry things online, no real action will ever come from it cos it's built on a lie and barely of their members care enough actually do anything.
Seemed a shambles today. Whatever the rights or wrongs of the campaigns (fwiw I'm against) you need to organise surely ie "hold posters up.at x minutes time" rather than give them out and make a paper aeroplanes out of them.
I did collect my poster and hold it up at the suggested moment in the lower West Stand. Too much back biting on this sight against a group who have the best of intentions for Barnsley fc in the long run
He might have been if enough people could be arsed, Vesp and it had been reported back to him. Unfortunately getting football fans organised is a total waste of time because very few can ever see beyond the nose on their faces. Get used to Conway and the others being here as long as it suits them and doing things exactly as they like.
A closed group is never the best way. I held my poster up ( asked someone on the concourse as I didn't pass anyone handing them out either) some kids near me were making aeroplanes with them and it kept them occupied for the match. We're obviously at the moaning stage rather than action but that doesn't mean it's a complete waste of time.
I’m careful not to be too critical, but looking on, whoever is behind this campaign, if they’re genuinely serious they either need a serious rethink or some help. By any standards, what happened yesterday wasn’t a protest. It wasn’t anything, apart from some paper aeroplanes.
I think you've completely missed the OP's point. For a protest to work, it needs to be clear what is supposed to be happening. I didn't see anyone giving out posters, I didn't see a single one held up, and to be honest, barring a 30 second spell just after we scored, I didn't hear anyone voicing concerns over the ownership yesterday. The OP wasn't 'biting back', they were merely pointing out that for a protest to mean anything, it needs to be much better organised. One last thing, if this Facebook group had the best intentions of Barnsley FC at its heart, it wouldn't lie to its followers. It is lies and miscommunication by PMG that's got us to the point of protesting in the first place.
Win a few more games and there will be no protest3 lose a few and there will again. Qiunas and Bassi look to be good additions, shame Oulare and Iseka didnt make the same impact. Its not nailed on that recruitment works straight away everytime so credit where its due.
Exactly this. All it would have taken was a few strategically placed people handing them out round the ground and telling people what to do with them. Much more of an impact and people can make their own minds up. A half arsed disorganised protest is worse than no protest at all as it looks like only a few are bothered which may not be the case.
I tend to agree with the op. My take is organisation is key in such things and there didn't seem to be much if any. The gates open about 1 hour before kick off, so the organisers need to be at the ground near all the gates handing their posters out before 2pm. They should be posting on here as well as their Facebook group, as well as a piece in the Chronicle, as well as on Tykes TV, Red All Over etc.
But that's the thing, not enough people can be arsed and while ever that's the state of play it's pointless a hundred or-so people waving a red piece of A4 paper around. If there was a clear focus and some actual organisation then I (and a few thousand more) might be inclined to get behind it. Getting behind something unorganised and questionable is oftentimes more detrimental to a cause than just biding your time...
I didn’t see a single poster on my way to the ground and I didn’t see anyone in the West Upper with one. All I saw during the game were a few paper planes. That’s not a protest. In any case though I want new owners I’d like to know the plan before I do anything. I’d rather fight for Xxx in rather than just Conway out. We could get an Oyston or even go out of business
I’ve not got much to say around the success of the campaign or protest, but there’s a few reasons it didn’t get off the ground: - a closed Facebook group and some anonymous Twitter accounts won’t rally and unite the fans. What feels like a lot of people on social media is a tiny number in reality - I don’t believe SYP allow flyers and posters to be handed out near Oakwell. So I’d question posters as the mechanic to start with. Probably needed another plan or idea - Why should people hold up these posters? I don’t think it’s clear, to the majority, what Conway Out really is or means - I’ve been saying there wasn’t a consensus or majority for the last couple of weeks. I think yesterday proved that, but only for the reasons above. The ‘what next’ is a really big and important point when wanting to remove the ownership group. It’s not that people are happy, but you can’t blindly follow something that hasn’t thought out what the end goal is or made that obvious and clear to supporters We’re not in completely safe hands with these owners. Probably more twists and turns to come I feel.
I want this consortium out just as much as anyone, they’re ruining the football club. And I will be willing to participate in any real protest scheduled if it meant that the people in charge of the club will know we’ve had enough. However, I think it should be away from the ground or pre match. Whilst the match is on the lads need us. In the second half, after we had some good attacks it was nice to hear the vast majority of the ponty out singing the few ‘we want Conway out’ chants. Look, I want Conway and the rest of them to go, but I want to get behind the lads too, yesterday showed, together we do have some fight in there. “Barnsley till I die.”
I'm not much of an activist I'm afraid. I leave that sort of stuff to people that know what they're doing...
So you had the one poster I saw in the West Stand, fair play. But as far as I could see there were none in the East Stand and none in three quarters of the Ponty. All in all the planned protest fell flat on its arse. And that isn't a criticism, it's a statement of fact. However good its intentions this group isn't helping itself by keep making pronouncements it can't deliver on.
‘Lead, follow or get out of the way’ is something of a mantra for me. I tend to be a follower, and can be a pretty passionate one when it’s a cause I believe in. But I need to see leadership, for that to happen. I’m just not seeing any leadership to this campaign. Yesterday was just another example of that for me. It’s not a criticism, just an observation. As it stands I think they’re gonna struggle to attract many beyond the fringe elements of Facebook and Twitter.
