Yeah, 2 Wembley wins in the space of a few weeks. Went with my dear departed friend. RIP Haighy, thar wor as daft as a brush
And in the First round then, we won away at Scunnythorpe. It's not always a good fixture for us, but we got the win there.
And then onto another away tie, at Bradford. And we had a good record against them that season, at Valley parade!.
And now we were at home, against York, in the last 16 round. Adam making his comeback 'debut' here, made it a brilliant win for us.
I can’t remember if I went to that one. Certainly went in the league and league cup. League cup game went to pens.
And then in the Qtr Finals, we went to Wigan, and won there on penalties!. Not a great way to win a cup tie to be honest, but it's Wigan, so who cares ehh lol.
And then we played Fleetwood, in the two leg Semi Final. They were such an annoying team in those days, and a draw as it turned out, was a good result for us at home.
And onto the second leg, of the Semi at Fleetwood. Where I thought we dominated, and should have won more comfortably.
Great move by Patrick Cryne bringing Hammill back, it also saved Lee Johnsons job as he would surely have got sacked if not for Hammils impact and setting us off on a good run
And now we were onto the big one, at Wembley.. against Oxford. And we did it!!.. we finally smashed the monkey on our backs lol.
If I remember right we were desperately short of midfielders for the home tie & Brad Abbott started as well as Ashley Fletcher making his debut so a 1-1 result was pretty decent as expectations were low
2nd time lucky after rain abandoned 1st just before kick off. Was fuming. An 8 mile round trip for nowt
Yeah I remember it being called off, very late on as well!!. And some of our fans had to pass the time (shall we say!), in a few nearby Bradford pubs.
Yeah three times away at Scunny that season ehh!!. when we lost there in the league, I thought Lee Johnson was On borrowed time, to be honest.
Look at the quality of players we had then... Winnall did score, Mawson did defend and score, Scowen did create and score, and sometimes Davies did save!.
