..and I know it has been a while since we were challenging for automatic promotion so early in the season, but I cannot remember a time when the top several sides have had such a long consistent run of results. With our current form I would have expected us to be well clear of the chasing pack and already in an AP spot especially as we did not do our usual trick of starting the season's run up to Christmas disastrously and having to play 'catch up'. Is the current League One grossly 'unbalanced' with half a dozen good sides and the rest 'cannon fodder' and if so how the hell did we manage after last season to end up in the former category after all the slating the owners got? I know sides usually have 'dips' in form, but these seem to be a long time coming for the teams around us. Let's hope we can maintain this level for at least the next few weeks to keep the pressure on.
On November 1st we were 10 points behind wendy with a game in hand. 17 points behind Plymouth To date 11 points behind wendy same games 8 points behind Plymouth 2 games in hand. Given all the hoo har about Wendy's unbeaten run. I reckon we have been as impressive. The 2 games we lost since nov 1st. Charlton was an absolute travesty. Bolton, mads got sent off.
So we've only dropped four more points than the oinkers during their marathon unbeaten run. Not bad that.
We weren't playing catch up last time we were promoted. We were up at the top all season. We accumulated 91 points but that wasn't enough to win it and we finished just 3 points above the teams in 3rd and 4th.
we’d have won the league at a canter, had Woodrow not missed the first 1/4 of the season or Moore not missed the last 1/4, and would have broken records, not to mention finished with two 20 goal strikers had they both been fit all season.
That's football. Every club has their ifs, buts and maybes, we're just not privy to other clubs because we're only focused on our own (despite the armchair analysts' view on other clubs and their players). We know the value of Woodrow and Moore, but injuries happen etc. Luton deserved to win it that year.
Ipswich fan thinks they won't need those 2 players to beat us - their form at the moment should see them win! Couldn't quite grasp the fact ours is just as good as there's and better over last 6-10 games!
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see four teams finish on 90+ points. Wycombe winning the playoffs after scraping in on the last day is nailed on!
People often write about the Moore/Woodrow partnership. Reality is they barely played together. Think it was 10 games and in two of those, one of them was subbed at half time.
Wednesday have an annoying habit of winning 1 match and somehow shooting up about 16 places in the table, whichever stage of the season. We win 4 (actual thrashings) in a row and move up 2.
Pretty sure the last time we were promoted from this division, all of the top 5 achieved over 85 points. I reckon its going to be a similar situation this time too.
For me I Don’t think it was the ‘partnership’ as such, it was the fact that they were both scoring goals whether playing at the same time or not
