Going into Fleetwood, I was searched as is now expected at away matches. My shoulders were given a really heavy patting down (because that's where I often keep my illegal Coke bottle tops*), and then, what has become the usual pat down of my upper body. What I then found odd though, was the guy then actually put his hands in my coat pockets. I didn't think anything of it at the time, because I felt it was a bit odd he's not patted down my other pockets (where my wallet, phone and keys were). Any road, I walk on and turn to wait for @Baka who showing them his wallet .... very odd. Then this on Twitter. Anyone else have problems? * I joke, I don't take anything dodgy into a match.
I had a VERY thorough pat down but nothing particularly out of order. I found the stewards very friendly as always at Fleetwood, really nice club. I thought the police were once again way over the top, both in numbers and activity. Is there really a need for a camera to be pointed in everyone's faces all the time? Do we need five coppers constantly pointing to people and making notes when nothing amiss appeared to be happening? Should we accept the police talking to people like they've literally crawled out from under a rock? A riot van and mounted division at probably the friendliest and most chilled out ground in the league? Anyway, good luck to Fleetwood Town FC, great little club and a pretty decent team too.
I’m sure they would argue yes, there is a need. At our last away game there was trouble - violence - between our fans and the stewards, and there was a vile racist comment made against one of our own players. I’m sorry but whilst I’m sure you as, most of our following, are perfectly law abiding and interested only in the game, some of our away following give us a reputation, one which it is hard to argue to be unfair. As I said last week on the thread which highlighted what was shouted towards Jacob Brown, incidents like those mean we will be heavily policed and stewarded at every match, everywhere we go. One of the main reasons I won’t take my son to away games, though the morons who cause it are a bigger one. All this said no steward should be searching anybody’s wallet; but the searches and heavy police presence I’m afraid is deemed necessary.
I've been seated last twice and had no problems what so ever. Just a bit odd this year for us trouble makers that wish to stand.
I was chatting to the coppers by van after coming out of the chippy. They seemed pretty friendly and chilled.
Steward told me I could have refused him looking through my wallet, but I wouldn't have been able to watch match. Thought it was bang out of order.m
Would like to get the clubs (Fleetwoods) response on this subject. We also have a lot of older ladies travel with us. Get their handbags searched. I Don’t know if purses get looked in. I know some will say no one is immune from it. But for gods sake i find it pathetic. By the way I’ve never been searched at Oakwell. No stewards outside east stand. How bizarre.
The police have no legal right to search a wallet as far as I can ascertain, and I'd assume that this would also apply to Stewards by default. View attachment Stand Up Sit Down Fact Sheet.pdf
I guess the potential for being searched is a condition of entering the stadium. That should be within the terms and conditions when purchasing the ticket (which none of us probably read). There shouldn’t be any need for anything as intrusive as searching inside someone’s wallet. What on earth were they looking for?
Could anyone enlighten me as to whether we have stewards that carry out searches at home games. None at east stand . Assume present at away end.?
Would guess it's just the away end I've never been searched entering Oakwell but have been regularly searched at away games. Never had my wallet searched though (not that they would find much!) Someone in the ground told me it had happened to them he wasn't upset more bemused.
Had my wallet searched at music festivals before, not at football, to be fair the pat down is pretty half arsed usually and achieves very little. Those who want to get anything in usually do
Exactly- I’ve always wondered if they are just doing it for show because it’s certainly not an effective way of body searching somebody for weapons, smoke bombs etc. If you’re going to do something do it properly, or not at all is my motto.
[QUOTE="Prince of Risborough, post: 2191454, member: 54370" If you’re going to do something do it properly, or not at all is my motto.[/QUOTE] Our lass says I don't know how to do it right. But not at all .NAH.
Stewards are just wannabe coppers. If they forced themselves into my wallet i'd have said i dont consent to a search. Im not suspected of any crime so **** off ya lovely person
Then they may have well have said your aren't coming in especially if you are going to use abusive language. Not that I can see a need to search anyone's wallet mind, but in these situations it's often the case that you just have to put up with it.
