Why was this an early Kick off

It was the same when Grimsby Played Notts County

Its a 1hour 45mins drive so not exactly a local derby

I found it weird too. Maybe because Grimsby Town had sold out their allocation of over 1,500 so for that level the match was deemed high risk. Apparently the build up the sides mentioned it being a local derby. Racing Post found that funny on saturday when as they put it since when is 70 miles between teams local.

Grimsby currently have a tremendous away following, regularly taking over a thousand every other week for the last two seasons. They also have a reputation for being a but lively, having played up at Notts County the week before and fighting with Sheff Utd in pre-season. Given the hyper-sensitivity around policing football nowadays, plus the apparent overkill at Mansfield Town matches, an early kick off was always likely. Expect our games at home to Leeds and Wednesday to be also early kick offs.

Well logically yes. But I find most just start earlier and therefore end up even more drunk than usual. Last season at Bramall Lane there were lads who could hardly walk 11.30am. What you tend to find with early kick offs is the atmosphere is noticably poorer regardless of alcohol intake and even the game seems to be less entertaining. Anything earlier than 1pm seems un-natural to me.

It relates to the all pervading smell of kippers.

It is no respecter of travel. And as the day warms up, it overwhelms.

There's a cracking video knocking around on the interweb of the Grimsby fans at Barnet the season before last. In the away game prior, a lad was allegedly ejected from the stadium for taking an inflatable into the ground. So for the following game at Barnet, their entire support (it seems) took inflatables.

Quite an atmosphere for a non league game.

Not wrong. Three years ago when they played Scunny in the FA Cup it was mental and went to a replay so between the two ties it had booing during a minutes silence and a running battle with weapons up the seafront by around 100 rival fans.

That can't be right, Scunnys ground doesn't hold a hundred does it?
