Calling for a fans boycott of the charity shield due to another late kick off at no thought to fans, it’s time somebody made the powers that be think on the the folk that pay the money.
While I agree with the fans in general I bet there weren't many of them complaining about the kick off time of the champions league final last week which didn't kick off till 10 o'clock at night did it? Why weren't they boycotting that match? Is it because maybe their morals only come in to play on the small games? And let's be honest itv are hardly the bad guys of football. Manchester city signed up to play in a league abroad didn't they? The clubs are what cause the fixture problems and kick off times, not the fa, EFL or even the TV channels. The clubs instruct the fa/EFL to find the highest paying TV deals at the expense of the fans and the TV stations simply pay for what the clubs have asked for. It's like the new EFL deal. It's **** but it's not **** because sky have held a gun to someone's head and demanded it, it's **** because the club's instructed the EFL to find the most expensive deal they could at the expense of fans. Sky have merely payed the money for the deal the EFL were selling and they were only selling it because greedy clubs said **** the fans.
I think that’s unfair. The champions league final is always at that time mid week. Although they are having ridiculous success and I’d love Barnsley to be that successful. I do see why they’re frustrated. A lot of us found out in the play off final how frustrating getting away from Wembley is. We didn’t get home until gone midnight with a 2pm kick off. I genuinely feel for the fans on this one. I hope their boycott is successful and half the stadium is empty, it’s time the fans are given the respect we deserve.
That beef would be with UEFA surely. Personally I think the fans have a point, the charity shield is pretty much a non event apart from to the fans of the clubs involved , for them its a chance to maybe take their kids to Wembley as tickets are more readily available and not everybody can afford to stay over for these games. Also as far as I'm aware they aren't protesting against just TV companies but against unnecessary inconvenience to fans in general and lets be honest that's been getting worse for years, and its time fans made their voices heard more on this
