I feel like we have lost our identity I've seen ***** over the years. 2003, administration, but I still felt like we had our identity. Now I don't feel nothing. I don't know what it is. Is it the owners? Is it the way football is going... Everything is easy these days. I can somehow watch Barnsley whenever I want without making any effort. I'll be honest it's ****. The results dont help but if we was top of the league I wouldn't get the same buz I did back in the days of 2006 winning the play offs. Footballs not the same it once was. Sad really ...
We lost our identity the moment the club was no longer owned by a Reds fan*. And to think that only a couple of years earlier we had Reds fans as our owner, manager and team captain. *although fair play to them, I don’t think any previous owners have chucked money away like this lot are doing. The previous owners always seemed to have a plan though…
Same. I felt that when we got promoted under Stendel, and got to the Champ Play Offs. They didn't seem like it was a big deal like 2016. I think after Rimmo and Patrick died it took something away from the club tbh. You used to 'feel' the town buzz, or if the club was struggling you felt like we could pull out of it. I think part of it now though is that life in general has just got in the way of such things as football.
Maybe that’s because we’ve become more accustomed to playoffs and promotion though? I think there’s a bit of that in it for me. I can absolutely guarantee that buzz would have been there if we’d beaten Wendy’s at Wembley. Pressures always going to be on foreign owners, simply because they have no local affiliation, so must be here meaning business, which raises everyone’s expectations. I don’t remember anyone minding when they’re successful, but when they’re not, it’s always going to be an issue that they’ve not local.
Maybe so, but you've got to admit the football club doesn't feel like the heartbeat of the twn these days
If we have foreign owners, that doesn't bug me to be honest. But I do at least wish they were football 'people', and fans of the game in some way. And that they had some sort of football knowledge, so they could do their jobs more sensibly and competently. Julie Q has said a few times though, that this is a business for them. And that's what they are doing here, running a business (and very badly!). The business part of it is important as well of course, but surely it should never take priority over the football part of it. And that for me is a big reason as to why it feels like this clubs identity and history, is being deleted, bit by bit.
The gulf is massive between haves and have nots. Unfortunately, Barnsley FC is now in the have nots. Scorelines like yesterday would be a frequent event in the Championship. The club is correctly where it is at due to the way it is run. This season is immensely damaging for the fans and the club will be stuck at this level for some time to come. It is really sad to see the decline but people in general can and have found better things to do than go to Oakwell.
Can't remember the last time anybody asked " Do ya get down to Oakwell" Used to be as common as discussing the weather. Also there's more people who live here but don't come from tarn. Agree with the feeling that the club is no longer central to heartbeat of the town and sadly the ownership does little to foster the "We are Barnsley" buzz that we all used to feel. Talking to us like we're all stupid as the owner did in a recent interview will only push the most dedicated fans further away.
