Makes some interesting points. I really rated him at Barnsley, but his kicking was abysmal. Interesting that he says we played "long ball", especially under Hill. Anyway I'm glad he's settled in Greece.
I always thought it was Steele who wasn't confident playing it out from the back. Players would come short for the ball and he would wave them away and hoof it down field. Other keepers who who played when Steele was injured would play it out from the back
Not to the extent they do abroad though. Most English teams especially over the years would be considered long ball abroad. The keepers pass it short as a default abroad. Over here its much more normal kick it long from goal kicks ect. You do that abroad they'd wonder what the f*ck you're doing.
Good to hear he's still enjoying it. It's a massive shame the England setup is so narrow minded not to give him a chance, I bet no one has even been out there to watch him.
Some places reported prior to the Euros that he was being considered. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
You mean Perry's didnt sponsor Man Uniteds Youth team! I also liked the comment "...as stark as for Steele, who'd become attuned to life in England's lower leagues." - not sure I would really refer to the Championship as one of the lower Leagues
Recently talking to my Panithanaicos supporting friend we got on about Luke Steele. He said he's a fantastic shot stopper but prone to error with balls into the box with missed punches and sometimes flapping at the ball. The overall feeling for Luke is the fans love him.One because he is brave and second the fact that he's English.
It'd be nice to see Steele get a call up but let's be honest, Forster, Butland & Hart are levels above the rest of our choice & it'll take some miracle for all 3 to be injured / suspended at the same time for someone like Steele to get a game
Brilliant interview, cheers for posting. Fair play to him for cracking on and learning Greek as well - it's meant to be easily as difficult as Russian, and that's pretty damn tough as I can testify. A lot of players reckon that learning the local language is the key to making a success of any move abroad. Steve McManaman and Sammy Lee did it in Spain, whereas apparently Jonathan Woodgate and earlier Gazza in Italy had problems.
