... in the last week or so. Apart from the obvious shock of Stendel's departure I think it is quite insightful to see how a forum such as this develops argumentatively. There seems to be a groundswell of opinion which there wasn't before that the board are now evil, need to go or certain people will consider not renewing season tickets again etc etc... I think the motives of the board are patently obvious-making a buck- and therefore if the board sack a manager and don't inform the fans effectively what's going on it's irrelevant to that bigger picture. I couldn't care less if they tell me about the reasons for sacking Stendel to be honest. I'm not bothered. I'll make my judgments about his worth long term after his replacement has had chance. I'm similarly not bothered about anything else they tell me. I can work things out for myself. The only thing I am concerned about is their own intent for the club and as I say that is for them to make money. The plan makes money otherwise they'd be off. So, at the end of the day, if you are getting pissed off with the owners about silence and Stendel's sacking have a think about the purpose of the ownership itself. It's that that should make you comfortable or uncomfortable. Managers have been sacked before and they will be again. Some boards communicate better than others. Do the board have the interests of Barnsley fans at heart or not? That is the real question? Again, as I have intimated I think they don't....Im going to the game tomorrow though
I don't hate them or think they're evil. I think there are some owners that exceed the fans expectations for a while at least, like at Wigan and Reading just to name a few. There are other owners that haven't really got any brass but still get accused of not having ambition. These chufferoos are a strange lot, and what they're doing isn't going to work in the Championship, unless everyone else starts doing the same to even things up a bit. I'm more frustrated with them than angry. It's like when you try to advise your kids, but they do it their own way and come a cropper.
Which board? Is it this message board? That board? Tuther board? Or the club board? I’m going nar cos I’m .....
I don’t think they have some kind of ulterior motive or part of the eluminati or anything, but I do think they are driven by money/profit in a short’ish term, Which blinds them to the bigger picture. Someone dangles 3 million for a player who cost less then a million and they’ll snap your hand off. Without deeper thought on the long term consequences. I don’t think it matters to them what league we are in next season we’ve had the best transfer window, in that we’ve hoovered up a load of young talent the board know they’ll turn a profit on,
Long term motive has to be the big divide. For most of our previous owners on field success was the goal and that was shared by the fans. I don’t follow Barnsley because I’m here for the glory but I do for the odd times we have success. If success now means trading players without the same long term goal then this will create a divide between the club and the fans. Anyway, just setting off on a 4 hour flight and hour long drive before a few hours of sleep then Oakwell.
I'm wondering what will happen if season ticket sales drop substantially and walk up fans decide not to bother. Will it bother them?
If we get relegated, many fans will probably think we'll come straight back up so season ticket sales shouldn't be too badly affected, but this yoyoing is a precarious thing. Only takes us to miss out and it gets a bit messy. As things are, I think I'd be tempted to watch us in league one, but not bother in the championship.
I dont hate the board but as honoured custodians of our club, we as loyal stakeholder should be allowed to question their actions and motives if we believe in doing so. Their lack of professionalism, is what i am puzzled at. I appreciate that some fans are just glad we have a club and are happy we arent bury or bolton. Thats fine ......fans/people are different and their expectancies like wise. I also dont want them sacked but i do want t hem to be more explicit to us, in their major actions. The days of multi media are upon us and running a succesful business needs to be done in a proffesional informative way. News and rumours travel fast regardless of the accuracy and as we have found can escalate. They only have themselves to blame.
I think with how quiet our directors box will be tomorrow they should pop some recliners in there to make it look busier for the few that will turn up.
