I understand the way the recruitment at Oakwell works like this. The recruitment team identify possible targets (hopefully while listening to the head coach when he's telling them where he feels the squad needs strengthening but to be honest not much evidence to show they do). The head coach looks at the list and puts them into some sort of order of preference. The CEO is responsible for getting the signings done. Now we all know the manager wanted to strengthen the forward line he has said so in the media. So did the recruitment team fail to come up with suitable targets or did the CEO fail to land any of the targets he was given? Once again we seem to have no recruitment plan that actually takes into account where the gaps and shortcomings are and seeks to fill them. I think the whole recruitment structure at Oakwell needs some serious attention given to it and needs shaking up starting with the CEO and head of recruitment.
Yesterday reminded me of the summer of 2017 when Hecky had targets and Ganaye went out and signed a load of midfielders. Eventually Hecky's interviews became more sulky and he spent 3 months looking for a way out. What's concerning for me is Duffs comments regarding the transfer window. Paraphrasing "I don't know I'll see what I've got to work with tomorrow morning". It had a touch of apathy about it. For such and upbeat Head Coach it made me think he wasn't going to get what he needed.
