So now we know why membership of SAGE was kept secret. The bloke who said it was better that 60-80% of the population got the virus in order to give us herd immunity is on the panel with his database pal. No wonder the scientist had to backtrack when he said that not joining the EU order was a political decision. They are not led by science, they are led by spin and politics. Johnson is hiding in a fridge while Dom gets on with running the country.
I seriously wonder whether Cummings inclusion has cost lives.

Led by the cheapest option until it bit them.
And now we’re suffering while Boris danced around hospitals shaking hands as news reports of suffering beamed back from China, Italy and Spain .

But it's fine. Brave Boris is showing that bulldog spirit, like they had in the war. He took on coronavirus and beat it, with only the help of a million nurses and a ventilator.

He's the best Prime Minister in history.

They make me laugh when they hark back to WWII and the Spanish Flu. Because it suits them. If a "leftie" counters with something from the past theyre called out for living in the past and "should move on/world has changed". Its incredible.

It's a post-truth world and we'd better get used to it. Trump has already eradicated yesterday's debacle from the history books.

We live in a world blighted by selfish idiots, whether it’s those ignoring lockdown, the mamil fraternity or the millionaire celebrities telling us all how to live. But for every one of them there’s another 10 who do stick to the advice, who have volunteered in their communities, who are putting themselves at risk to maintain the country. I like ti think that for all the selfish idiots there are enough people of quality to give hope that society is a little better than it seemed before all this.

Aye, it's the cyclists who are to blame, not the government.

The scientists will be positive about today. Daily infections aren't often below 4,500 and that's with another increase in people being tested.

Its a Sunday - do we get all the results today or are infections like deaths and dont get caught up until Tuesday?

By the way back to the OP - its all well and good saying led by science but even without interference from Cummings the government has been very lax in outlining what science and what advice they are following. Science in cases like this is very subjective and should be open to review and challenge- it was also clearly wrong initially as we suddenly had a step change in March, and almost all science and the most succesful countries at containing this are following a rigorous track and trace and quarantine approach - something we are not only just considering. Either our scientists were wrong or there is a lot more to it than just being guided by a select few scientists

The deaths are never for the previous day anyway so the daily figure is largely irrelevant. The last graph I saw adjusted for deaths by day did show a decrease but sadly a slow steady one.

does this suggest that the self-isolation and lock down isn't really working? Most people have done as requested over the last four weeks yet the figures of people with the virus are high.
The whole question of tracing people who have been in contact with someone with the virus is complex. How do you trace all those who have been in contact with say the shop-worker who may have the virus.
Is the very worrying reality that - there wont be a vaccine for at least 12 months - the lockdown has brought the expected results - the test/trace/isolate plan is in reality unworkable?

I suppose test/track/trace is workable if the numbers of infections are low enough and you have the resources. The aim of it would be to keep the spread under control not stop it.
Is it workable by our government? I have my doubts

Maybe it suggests that lockdown is working and the toll could have been a lot more without it .
The test trace has worked very well in countries that have been serious about it and have not put the monetary cost first.

That will help they are now saying that the antibody tests the oxford team now have them reliably working and the government have ordered 50 million of them.
Cost a tenner a piece apparently.

Easy to trace family members of someone with the virus but how do you trace the many hundreds who may have come into contact with the person on the tube or the person on the supermarket cash desk who has the virus?

This thread is called Led by the science, and so it should, its called SAGA were the country's best in their field scientist discuss our way out of this situation and have no political alliances, which are epic and beyond anything we could imagine with the number of deaths but unfortunately, our chief medical advisor is designated to this job by way of his political alliance to the Tory party and what I gather the chief advisor to the prime minister a certain Dominic Commings is sitting in in these meetings also through some media's of the press, I find this astonishing as Dominic Commings is as much a scientist as I am. I think this is the reason the government will not release the findings of these meetings and who is in attendance. Remember these are the people who are putting our life at risk by there recommendations, I my self have worked in some of the worst condition's known to man tail gate ripping, shearer driving and actually being buried with a roof fall but F*** me I have never been more afraid for my life than I am now with this set of tw@ts running the show. Just take that Priti Patel she comes on live T.V. and tell's us in a statement that shoplifting is down from last year at this time, I mean these Tory's.
