The woman who he infamously ranted at and got kicked out at Wimbledon, is suing for defamation. Does she have a point? Does he need to acknowledge some of his behaviour is just straight unacceptable and should have consequences? Or is she doing it through entitlement for publicity, simply because she can obviously afford the legal fees? http://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...-accused-begins-legal-action-tennis-wimbledon ‘She looks like she’s had 700 drinks’: fan accused by Kyrgios begins legal action
I saw the article about it at the time but didn't know her name until now, and I don't think there was much chance of him repeating it. Given she's admitting she had two drinks and was "encouraging" him it sounds like her behaviour was out of line. Clearly a very horrible, entitled, nasty piece of work.
There were lots of women in dresses in attendance. If he only said it was the one in a dress who looks like she's had 700 drinks and she knew that was her then erm...
I don't think it's in any doubt whatsoever, that the woman he made the direct remarks about and got ejected, is the woman suing
genuinely don't have an opinion on this one yet. needs to be treated in isolation based on the evidence, which I haven't seen. but generally speaking, to me personally, he routinely comes across as an obnoxious bellend, who thinks he can say and do whatever he wants, to whoever he wants, without repercussion
It isn't but did he take someone over to her, point and say her right here, this woman who looks like... Or did he say, in a crowd of thousands, the woman in a dress who looks like she's had 700 drinks? If it's the latter and the person who said they didn't know who he meant suddenly did then isn't the description accurate?
not quite sure I understand your point tbh mate. this is footage I quickly found. it seems pretty obvious from the footage, that he repeatedly complains and makes direct comments about the same person, points her out when the ump asks him to clarify who it is, then demands she's thrown out I think the basis of her case is that he publicly defamed her, which resulted in loads of unwarranted grief for her. will be interesting to see how it pans out
I was only going on the article which said he had described to his opponent a woman in a dress who looked drunk. What I meant was if that was as close as he got to identifying her and everyone knew who it was it must have been accurate. If he actively pointed her out that's different
Did she get any grief? I can't recall her being identified until she outed herself in the media. The bloke's a knobhead but I hope he defends this.
The guy is an ass hat. I can imagine it might have been quite upsetting to turn up to the tennis with your mum and be ejected on the demented ramblings of that clown.
Dunno tbh. Guess that will come out in the evidence. However it was a hugely public rant in front of a global audience. If I’d been on the other end of that and felt I’d been wronged, I’d be furious and expect the right to reply, which is essentially what she’s doing. I don’t think she should just be expected to pipe down and not say or do anything. I’m sure he will definitely defend it. He doesn’t strike me as a person with too much remorse about how he behaves. Seems to be of the opinion that “well I’ve got some demons, so you’ll just have to accept it”. I don’t personally think that’s good enough. I think he needs to do more to try and change his ways.
Hope she loses a lot of money. Stupid case to open. If anyone should have beef with him it should be his coaching staff, sister and girlfriend for how he was shouting up to his box at them.
So if someone singled you out in the crowd and had you ejected you wouldn't be pissed off about it? If it turns out she hasn't done anything wrong then she has every right to sue him, maybe he might think twice in future.
I'm still on the fence. The facts that I can see. A woman was shouting out during play. He asked the umpire to remove her. He didn't. She continued to shout. He kicked off at the umpire again and when the umpire said he didn't know who it was Kyrgios said 'i know exactly who it is, it's the one in the dress who looks like she's had 700 drinks' I dont think he was ever shown on TV actively pointing her out was he? In all the videos I've watched (just watched about 10) the woman is never actually shown, it's just a close up of Kyrgios and the umpire. From his description of a dress and drunk alone the umpire/stewards knew who he meant. The BBC chose to show the woman afterwards and repeat the drunk allegation. Wimbledon staff decided the woman needed to have a bottle of water to settle her down before allowing her to retake her seat. The fan then talked to newspapers, outing herself and identifying herself. I don't think she's got a hope in hell of winning. He didn't actually identify her, he made the allegations but did it without identifying her to anyone. The BBC or Wimbledon chose to put a camera on him at that moment to broadcast what he was saying, they chose to then show the woman. The woman chose to identify herself in the media. Of course he's an absolute dick though and it's a lesson that you can't just accuse or assume that someone is drunk because could be a variety of reasons people act like that.
