I wouldn’t have said so before I saw Mowatt last couple of games. But he’s sitting deeper, dictating play, and looking to get attacks going. Playing like Connor did by the time he left. So much better than when he was playing as an attacking CM or “number 10” with his back to goal receiving the ball. (Not saying he’s as good as CH for avoidance of doubt!) Still think Moncur needs to play as a second striker or in a 3. His defensive work, unless improved a lot, isn’t suited to a 2.
After today's game, if we are to play 442,then Alex and Kenny are 1st choice. Kenny uses both feet equally and is mobile and can taçkle. Alex has developed as a player and only looked unhappy when he was moved to the wing,which is where PH played him. Cameron M seems to be changed into a defensive midfielder,post injury. We didn't seem balanced and effective with Potts,Moncur and McGeeghan in midfield,but it was a friendly so perhaps it's not important.
No need, if Mowatt continues to progress then there are at least four (Dougall, Mowatt, Potts and McGeehan) in front of Moncur and the wastrel can be flogged off to Ebbsfleet or somewhere and a flying winger brought in instead without harming the wage budget.
