Great to get to a game, great to see a win, great to witness a clean sheet, great to participate in our club's quite magnificent away support, given the size of the crowd in total clubs like Shrewsbury must relish us being in the league, great to experience a tidy, friendly, nicely run club and stadium. HOWEVER. Given the relatively lofty positions of both sides this game illustrates how modest the standards of football are in this league. It wasn't a good game to experience, the fare was really thin, the standards around basics like passing ab ball when under little pressure was at times laughable, same with taking shots (although Shrewsbury were far worse than Barnsley in this respect). I thought that we were a better unit than them which is what made the difference. Having read the views expressed over certain players I tried to focus on them all. Kitching, Edwards and Connell had the better games, doing the things they are paid to do competently. Kane similarly. Connell and Kane, on this display don't waste much , they are (Herbie in particular) lamentably slow giving opponents time to re-group before anything of real impact can happen. The striking pair got very little service but did very little when they did. The goal was well worked. My MOM would be a toss up between Kitching, Edwards and Connell with little to separate them , perhaps I might just plump for Edwards who didn't put a foot wrong and was visibly spurring things on. So, on and up.
Hope you didn’t get trampled by the idiot faction at the end there. It is nice to see a big away following but it’s a shame that so many of them behave like morons. People near the front could have been seriously hurt while trying to avoid it. I watched on iFollow and yes, it wasn’t a great game, but that doesn’t matter to me if we win. The victory was well deserved and I confidently predict we will not drop out of the top ten all season. Top six is achievable but let’s see what January brings.
