Frustrating game we just weren't on it today - too many passes going astray, taking the wrong option far too often and then when we did get great chances managing to mess them up Reading got lucky with their first goal and a quality break and finish for the second then declared Only 3 days since we last played - same as Saturday to Tuesday so I think with the effort against Boro and Hull it was a game too far this week. More like the Birmingham performance - though we were better than that game 5 wins still needed but now from 10 games instead of 11, but still a lot better than 8 wins from 14 so its a blip rather than game over for the season. Be honest 4 games ago if someone had offered 3 wins we would have snatched their hands off - Just need to do it again now It was particularly annoying because even below par we created several good opportunities but just didn't convert. Important we get something next week though as we wont get anything at Loftus Road
Reading were terrible, we were worse. Every pass was hard work today, the stats no doubt say we had more possession and more shots and were on top. They dont lie but they don’t tell anywhere near the whole story.
Three out of four matches at home next month presents us with an excellent opportunity to put today's result to bed. I'm not going to go overboard with any criticism after losing to Reading. But I'll definitely enjoy all of the upcoming victories before the end of the season. Assuming, of course, there'll be some!
All they tell is that our finishing was terrible. We had the chances and did nothing with them. Same old story, except that we've stopped giving wholly daft goals away by the defenders. Then Brown stepped in to continue the trend.
Too much is made of feeling tired after a midweek game and unnecessary adjustments are made for it. It's part and parcel of professional football and has been for years. Struber alluded to energy levels pre-match and the thought can be put into players heads. It's more psychological than anything.
I really thought we were rubbish today, reading were there for the taking if we had any quality about us.
We were away, and had 62% of the possession, apparently. You can't be rubbish if you keep the ball to that extent. There is an argument for saying that we're poor for not making anything of it.
you can. We were. Passing the ball, often badly to each other around the halfway line for most of the second half until some one wellies it into the stand doesn’t make for a good performance.
If you look back on this thread I stated that the stats told you our finishing was terrible. What is the point that you are making?
Well when I support the away team and they have 62% of the possession, and 23 shots at goal as opposed to 7, I might tend to think that we played it about OK but were crap when it came to scoring. I wouldn't think we were rubbish. And in watching the game I believe we weren't rubbish. Our attempts on goal were rubbish though.
Is this a private argument or can I join in. We weren’t good. Far too many passes ware over hit or misdirected and we didn’t have our usual zip. We generally didn’t play anything like as well as the last 3 games. But I don’t think we were rubbish. Just well below normal standards shooting was rubbish though
too many passes were over hit or misdirected Didn’t have our usual zip Didn’t play anything like as well Well below normal standards Shooting rubbish you don’t think we were rubbish! come on Dave!!
did you go? We were poor from start to finish. Given the efforts of the last 2 weeks that’s unsurprising but we can’t pretend otherwise.
I’ve always felt the system we play of moving it forward fast and at pace magnifies any lower performance but equally makes us look awesome when it comes off. All teams have off days at times, I think the difference with us the system doesn’t allow anything in between.
Just out of interest, when people say we didn't play to our usual standards, what do you mean? These usual standards have us 23rd in the league. So our usual standards aren't that good.
