Notices up around the crossing saying that an application has been lodged to close the crossing to pedestrian and vehicles. Anyne any idea what thats all about? I thought that the council had sad there would be no bridge replacement
It's Network Rail doing follow up ("Tamping of the Track") on the work they did the other week. Sat 22:30 to Sun 09:30 https://barnsley.roadworks.org/
As far as I'm aware there are plans to shut this down permanently as network rail see this as a dangerous crossing, i read it in the better Barnsley mail bulletin last week, o don't think it's going to come in for a good while though just yet. That's how i read it anyhow....
It was in last week's Better Barnsley newsletter. Its a statutory notice declaring their intention to close the crossing at some indeterminate future time. Network Rail class it as High Risk and would love to get rid of it - but there has to be an alternative and there's the rub. The Council say they're in negotiations with Network Rail and they seem to be talking along the lines of the crossing being replaced by the much talked-about footbridge and the new town centre service road alongside the railway. The Council article implies it will be at least 2019 before we're likely to see the end of the crossing.
http://cdn.barnsleychronicle.com/email20160912-index.html Looks like signs are for the intention to close in the future, but no date set until alternative pedestrian crossing has been agreed. It reads as it it won't be any time before 2019.
