Car going the wrong way round birdwell roundabout.

I genuinely don't know how that's possible. All the entries to it are angled so much to the left I don't know how you could turn right by accident

My only guess is that they were on the wrong side of the road already, like Anne Sacoolas

Had a similar incident at Bretton roundabout a few years back. I'd just got on to it from town side, only to come up against a family in a people carrier coming round the wrong way. Luckily neither of us were going fast and traffic was light, so I manoeuvred around them. The driver looked totally bewildered. Definitely one of those Twilight Zone moments.

Likewise - came from Darton to the Roundabout for the M1 at Bretton. Driver in front stopped and indicated to turn right at the roundabout...….

Could the driver have not been indicating to take the 3rd exit. ?

Used to see it a lot back in the early 80s in Cambridge, tourists mainly I guess. Can't imagine many tourists in Birdwell though....

Thing is Titus. I think today the rules on approaching roundabouts are different to what I was taught.
I’ll stand corrected. I think the teaching is to only indicate on approach to your exit off the roundabout.
    Over to the young uns

    Edit
The rules ( online) appear to be still the same as I was taught.

I was late to driving having passed my test in 2008, but i was taught to indicate right when approaching a roundabout and going round. It is news to me if thats correct.

Edit: Just checked highway code... this clearly shows someone indicating right:

I had someone recently take the wrong exit on a roundabout at the Blyth services roundabout just off A1. Instead of proceeding 10 seconds over the bridge to the next mini roundabout to possibly correct herself, she decided to reverse back onto the roundabout as I was trying to exit. I have to slam on to avoid her and fair to say I beeped my horn and said a few choice words. Amazingly to my shock, she had the check to beep back at me and shout and gesture back as if I was the one in the wrong!

J39 southbound exit pisses me off. It splits into three, left and middle for Wakey and right towards Cedar Court. Tonnes of people go in middle and cut round on inside, thick ********. Sat navs are great but still need to read road markings!!

Worst for me mate. Driving in Spain. I came off a slip road looked right. Turned left into the left hand lane. Let’s just say the driver of the car coming head on. ((we both jammed the brakes on) I’m sure, with the look he was giving me was saying “ you British b’std.” and rightly so.

Similar thing happens at Dodworth J37. If you’re coming from Dodworth Road and wanting to go right to M1 northbound. The amount of people that use the left lane, then drift into the middle lane to go straight on is amazing. I just make sure I’m in the far right lane all way round.

To be fair, many drivers I encounter don’t bother with indicators on roundabouts... or worse indicate left whichever exit they are taking. Then they wonder why folk are pulling out on them!

Happened twice to me, scares the **** out of you when a car comes at you from a totally unexpected direction like that. One was an old guy who I am convinced didn’t even realise what he was doing, other one just a **** driver ( turns out I knew who he was).
Suppose there’s always the chance from a foreign driver with a bit of brain fade.

There are still plenty of roundabouts (as well as a great many roads) in France where those joining from the right have right of way. It's quite unnerving to be having to stop on a roundabout to give way to traffic. Even the "priority from the right" rules on roads vary from place to place (and usually only apply in urban areas) so one has to be aware at all times as to who has the right of way at each junction. I suspect many foreign drivers remain blissfully unaware of this quirk when driving in France.

I've driven on the wrong side of the road twice: once in France for about 300 yards and once for about 100 yards round a blind corner on the day I got back to the UK. Fortunately I didn't meet any other vehicles on either occasion as neither Mrs Burgundy Red nor I have diplomatic immunity so I'd have had to have accepted responsibility for my own actions.

I saw somebody going the wrong way around the roundabout at Asda a few months ago. I know there are some horrific, dangerous drivers on the roads but when you actually witness it you still can't believe what you have just seen.
