And I can't wait to get down to Oakwell. I really should start to grow up and act more maturely, but not today. Going to the game with my best mate and nicest bloke I know, discussing everything BFC and putting right all it's wrongs. Meeting up with other long suffering, yet great blokes, in the ground whose company I've missed since April. Seeing the players walk out onto the pitch. Players who failed to keep us in the Championship, but who now have an opportunity to show their development, increased experience & improvement from last season. Our first chance to view the new Head Coach and see the beginnings of his style of football being introduced. New season, new gaffer, everyone starting off with a clean slate as far as I'm concerned. If today follows the same pattern as virtually all my previous seasons, come 5 o'clock I'll be in a foul mood, sulking and wallowing in self pity. I'd better enjoy this excitement while I can!
All 5 of us in attendance today. Both lads giddy and excited. That's all I ask. It was a struggle to get them going last season (myself included) The only one that kept being excited was leah. Shame her first season ended up in failure. But it hasn't put her off. Slate wiped as you said and raring to go. See ya in a few hours
It's starting to feel like Saturday normality has been restored. Checking the clock every 15 minutes and can't wait to get down to the ground. You Reds!
Just back from a pie run to Turners, the sun is shining, a few pints and hopefully three points...perfect
Well, that wasn't the worst opening day I've experienced! Powerful display from us. We were so dominant in the first half. In the second, we couldn't keep the tempo up, not surprising in the heat, and Oxford came more into it. However, it'd be churlish to nit pick after we've started the campaign with a 4-0 victory. As near a perfect a performance as you could get in the circumstances. I was impressed with all the team, but I'll give special mentions to Dougall, Potts, Mowatt & Moore and Thiam gave his best performance in a Barnsley shirt. A terrific save from Adam Davies just before we went 3-0 up. I'd have loved to see that effort from Dougall go in! Thanks to the team today for such a terrific performance and rare, thumping, home win on the opening day.
Well it's the perfect day up to now mate. Enjoy the rest of your evening. I'm away to drown my sorrows.
