Novel, too!. We haven't done so since we beat Middlesbrough 1-0 on the opening day of the 2012/13 season, Craig Davies got the goal. We haven't won on the opening day at this level since 2005/06 when we beat Swindon Town 2-0. Our goals were scored by Paul Hayes (on his debut) and Chris Shuker,. Daniel Nardiello missed a penalty for us and Nick Colgan saved one, too (Robbie Williams got sent off in the incident).
We seem to have more red cards than wins on opening day. A win would be a massive boost for everyone. And particularly the players. I'm not sure what this group can do with a bit of confidence, and don't think they know either. Hopefully we get to find out.
I can't remember, genuinely, when I last attended an opening day win ! The only thing that comes to mind is that we tend to concede quite a few.... usually four.
Be great to start the season positively. We weren’t out of League 1 very long but there seems to be some smaller clubs in it than when were in it previously (Accrington & AFC Wimbledon etc) We will have one of the biggest budgets & crowds in the division & a good start would hopefully start the momentum. There’s another 23 clubs all thinking the same tho...!!
I never expect a win on opening day. But always hope for one! This year I have a sneaky feeling we may just win. But i’ll not be panicking if we don’t. Will know a lot more after 5 or 6 games how the team is looking.
Exactly, let's not panic if we don't win the first game, or even many of the first few. There are lots of teams who have slow starts and recover. But a win would be great for everyone's confidence of course
I remember that Boro game - it was red hot and I drank far too much beer before and after the game and ended up with the mother of all headaches later that night.
just glad I am a tea totaler and head of the S. Wales temperance society..... and also one day I will be a real boy too
