In that you have different views, and are never likely to agree, much like the people you avoid in real life? I have been pondering this for the last year or so, and still cannot come up with a coherent answer. Does it pass the time on for you in a worthwhile way, or is it just .... pointless? Can anyone help please?
Some folk have no attention in real life so they go to the web for their fix. Some people just like to let off steam with some anonymous person
A good debate can be a healthy distraction from other issues that you might experience in everyday life. Sometimes though, especially when you think the other person is just on a wind up, you do think, what's the point. More so in the last year or so, I've written a response to a post (often quite lengthy), and then decided to scrap it knowing that the other person would either ignore it or miss the point. Sometimes you're never going to get the outcome you desire so that's when you ask yourself, what's the point? Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
This is a really good point. I've read this site for years and years (since about 2003), and have only really ever sporadically posted, maybe 30 in nearly 15 years. Because I'm someone people don't know and I'm not great at making my point, I think pretty much always what I'm trying to say is either misunderstood or ignored. Also, it probably doesn't help that when I do post, it's something I actually give a **** about! The main reason I haven't stopped reading this site is cos I don't live in Barnsley, so it's a nice way to keep up with football/other things that are going on in t'tarn.
Life s a meaningless meandering towards decay and death so it's mo more or less valuable a pastime than anything else.
I suppose it depends upon your definition of worthwhile really. Is anything worthwhile considering that we are all just marking time to the grave? When all is said and done, and the grisly Reaper's beckon call signals our departure from this mortal plane does anything matter? In a universe where the galaxies themselves are getting further apart and it will eventually be impossible to see from one to the other, until energy itself no longer exists, ultimately causing the heat death of the universe it's as good a way to pass the time as any, I suppose. It is true that many people I regularly disagree with on here I'd probably really get on with in real life, as I don't pick my friends on the basis that their ideas and opinions are a carbon copy of mine. (I take exception obviously to racists, fascists, etc). Wheras a forum, or any written media is just a device to transmit ideas, opinions, thoughts & as a result will more likely lead to disagreement. Most of us on here come on to discuss the team & pick up info from unofficial sources, like other social media. However, we do end up discussing a whole lot of other stuff too. That is usually where most of the conflict starts...
There is an ex poster on here who has become a rabidly obsessive internet 'troller'. This must be having an overwhelmingly negative impact on his life, and certainly of those he ceaselessly trolls. He has indeed been exposed as such on-line by certain websites. I understand he was known on here as 'windy'.
