Think that will have been for the scheduled game this Saturday. Imagine a lot won’t make the journey in midweek. Be surprised if they bring more than 2k but I guess it depends what the table looks like at that point.
Posted 3100 this morning, was postponed over a week ago, you'd have thought most would have got refunds by now, if they were getting one. Official site is showing as sold out.
Lockdown season 2019/2020 I sat in the away end at Rotherham with Ipswich fans, on a Tuesday night, they took a large following, over 2.5k so yes they will bring plenty.
I know they have a large fanbase even by Championship standards but I can never remember them bringing more than 1,000 on any previous occasion, so to bring double or treble that on a Tuesday night would be a phenomenal effort. Hope we can match them by filling the home ends like we did vs Wednesday and Derby, hopefully with the same result as against those two
Not just us slightly annoyed ...... It is a strange ruling, and once again fans are so far down the priority lists when decisions like this are made. Cost, dates, work, logistics etc ...... https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co...-city-made-official-complaint-crewe-game-off/
I'm glad there isn't a game. We'd have shot out of the traps like we did against Wednesday running on pure adrenaline and then after that initial spell of energy tiredness and mental fatigue might of kicked in. Instead of finding reserves to go again like they did against Wednesday. It could have been a lot more tense a finish. I'm glad I don't have to speculate about it more than this post. I also thought we showed signs of mental fatigue v Wednesday. Norwood's booking and Mads' over zealous challenge in the first half that lead to an unnecessary free kick. Also Phillips' booking. It will be a nice break and back on it v Exeter. It's not a bad fixture as I doubt there'd be as much emotion as a fixture against another high flyer. A Tuesday night game at Oakwell with a decent crowd and them travelling up on the day might suit us more anyway.
I expect them to sell out even for a long distance night game. Those who bought a ticket will still come. Pompey for the rearranged match brought 1200, when if the original date had been midweek they wouldn't have done.
True. But also not all away fans come the hometown. Many fans live in other parts of the country or study at Uni elsewhere. There was a survey done at a game a few years ago (not a Barnsley game), and something like 20% of the fans at that game hadn’t travelled from the town of the away club. But lived much nearer.
The Ipswich local media view. https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/23407956.ipswich-town-pros-cons-barnsley-postponement/ They will bring as many as Wednesday did. I have seen people trying to drum up interest to bring Jamaican flags to the game for "banter".
I think there'll be a fair few still to be returned. I still think they'll bring at least 2000 though. I guess it depends what's riding on it by then.
This is a point I’ve made a number of times over the years seeing as I’ve spent most of my adult life living elsewhere. It always annoys me when the commentators go on about “they’ve travelled down (or up) in great numbers”. Certainly plenty do travel from their home town but plenty more don’t for various reasons. At various times the likes of Wycombe, Cheltenham, Bristol, Reading and others have been local games for me, and plenty more of course.
