He has been here with Cardiff recently I dont recall anyone yelling F*ck off at him though there wasnt much love for him either
Correct. He spent the season's budget and £1million more by by Christmas. Learned nothing from his time at Leeds. The ******.
Patrick wanted a new team in charge that didn't cost 400K a year or whatever it was that they were costing so refused to bridge a small cash flow issue they had until the new year when an additional income was due (can't remember what it was at the time). At least that's what I heard from the person who ran the last BBS after Ridsdale invited him to look at the accounts.
This idea that he had a budget set by Patrick which he overspent on and so got ousted us rubbish though.
Was reported that way on Radio Sheffield at the time. December 18 prior to a game with Torquay (I think) which I remember because it was my birthday.
He and David Walker were directors and the club was owned by a holding company is my recollection which may or may not have been in his name but my understanding was that ultimately Patrick helped with finance and underwrote the whole thing hence the quick exit and replacement by Gordon Shepherd.
Think this hints at it. https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/ridsdale-on-verge-of-leaving-barnsley-1-2552794
I thought that Shepherd was at the club while Peter Ridsdale was and Gordon made a statement saying that Patrick had given investment to the club in return for a large amount of shares but Ridsdale didn't want to stay if he didn't own the whole lot so he instead sold it all to Patrick. Either way what all this kind of thing says to me is just how shady our recent history is. People having influence but acting like they havebth, giving mistruths to the fans and trying to keep things hidden etc.
At a supporters club meeting at Ardsley House and according to Shepherd at the time, Ridsdale was the highest paid individual at the club at around £1m pa whilst Walker, who was his mate at Leeds and seldom seen at Oakwell, was on £300,000 pa. They were both replaced by Shepherd who was unpaid. Shepherd didn't have a good word for either of them.
Will speak to someone tomorrow who knows. Not 100% sure as my memory could be better but that is my recollection. Certainly more to it than a straightforward sale of one owner to another. I definitely remember being told that Shepherd offering to do the Chairman's role for free was a big factor in what happened.
