I'm not happy Alfie is going - but...

£5million (or more if PC is quoted correctly) for a 22 year old centre back with less than 100 football league appearances, and a grand total of 4 in the second tier.

A player who we've had for just one season - and agreed only six months ago to pay Brentford a nominal figure (wasn't it rumoured to be £40k?) for his services.

It's a good deal. We lose a good player and a great ambassador for the club, but it's more than fair remuneration.

Also consider that swansea's need for a centre back stems from Everton taking Ashley Williams. We know where the Everton vacancy came from and we profited nicely there too.

I've no doubt there's dozens of threads on the subject so apologies for the new one. I'm not reading all of them at this time of night - but I think this is a good bit of business by Barnsley fc.

I'd also never want to be a club who stood in the way of such a progression for a player who's served us magnificently. What a chance for the lad. If he gets and stays in their side, plays well for six months, there's nothing to say he won't catch big sam's eye. There's precious little competition for English centre backs. Stranger has happened - I can see the same England side having a friendly with holgate at right back, stones and Alfie in the world middle.

Good luck to him and well done to the club, another gem polished up and passed up the food chain.
