Just looking at belgian league for some reason noticed ike is now playing for cercle brugge on loan from chelsea thought he was very poor for us any other loan signings thought would be good but turned out ****
He was playing in Holland last season. Scores a decent number of goals, but not sure about the quality of the opposition.
I remember reading Chelsea fans saying he was better than Abraham when we got him. It quickly became evident he was nowhere near good enough for championship football. I know we were unlucky with McBurnie but spending half a championship season with Bradshaw, Thiam & Ugbo as your only strikers was horrific.
He was pretty terrible for us, MK Dons and Scunthorpe, but seems to be much improved after going to Roda JC (Dutch 2nd division) and Cercle Brugge (Belgian top tier), got a good goalscoring record at both. Might still be a player there to develop.
ive spun this before but I had the pleasure to be in the middle of a cercle Brugge promotion party a couple of years ago. The locals couldn’t understand why a random assortment of brits had turned up for it we just happened to be drinking in Brugge all weekend! what a cracking day!
He wasn't very good for us, but let's not forget that he was an 18 year old without a professional appearance to his name when we signed him. He's still only 22 now and probably still not the finished article. It goes back to the arguments we were having on here in the summer re Ivan Toney's value. You can't judge a player now, based on a 15 game loan spell, 4/5 years ago, when the player was 16-19 years old.
One of a number of former loanees who have banged in the goals in the years after leaving us. Add him to the list with the likes of Woods, Rodriguez and Burton.
I’m sure I remember seeing an article that he was on 30 grand a week from Chelsea and had been on loan constantly to many clubs.
I’ve always wondered if things would have been different had he put away that sitter at Wembley in the league cup game. If he put that away and we went on to win (it was 0-0 early in the 2nd half IIRC) his confidence would have shot through the roof and we MIGHT have had a different player on our hands.
Mick McCarthy tried to sign him for Ipswich the season we got him. Thought he'd be great based on that.
I stand corrected but 9k a week and he’s never played for his parent club’s 1st team shows that it’s the going rate in Prem
https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/transfer-news/chelsea-transfer-erling-haaland-talks-20388350 Going to be sold in the summer and got plenty of clubs after him. I reckon he will end up at Monaco as living there will remind him of his Barnsley days.
