...for 2 or 3 years, we would be top end championship Collins Helik Andersen Kitching Brown Connell Cadden Styles Mowatt Woodrow Morriss subs: Philips, Brittain, Kane etc.
Not necessarily. Don't forget that some of those players were part of the side that reached the championship play offs AND finished rock bottom the following year. IMO, the coaching team is as important. Get the right one and keep them as much as keeping players. That said, we know we won't be keeping most players for very long and that, unfortunately, is unlikely to change.
The recent owners (Conway variety) have always adopted a short-termist attitude to running the club, hoping to get lucky on the cheap (like nearly happened with Ismael) whilst also selling all the best players for a quick buck (as most noticeably happened when entire spine of team were flogged off during Pinnock's era). If a good manager is appointed he needs to be nailed down on a long contract with a prohibitive sell-off clause and if players have to be sold then it should be no more than one or two and even then they should only go for genuinely attractive and helpful money. There should be some planning over the medium and long term to achieve a gradually stronger club.
