    My theory goes something like this.

    There are lads playing football as professionals in this day and age that would have been nowhere near a team 25/30 years ago, the football we watch in the championship and some of the players in it wouldn’t have been good enough for the old division 3. Squads back then were about 20 maximum, you now have squads of 30 at least with premier league teams having nigh on 60 players on the books including the loan players. The number of professionals must have rocketed, previously only the best players became professionals, now you’ve got hundreds.
