Not just on here either.... We've got a good fee for a good player all done with 5 days to get a replacement in..... The whole plan for the club is to get young talented players in develop them and sell them on for a profit. Job done!!!
Agreed. Well done BFC. I'd prefer our better players to stay, I'd prefer them not to leave on the eve of a game, but that is a tremendous tribute to the development of a young player, in the hands of BFC.
I understand it not being great on the eve of the game but I do understand why it's been announced. If he wasn't in the squad tomorrow then it would of been obvious he's going so the club who have been criticised for not being open about things in the past have made a statement so we all know what's going on. I also don't think there is a good time to lose a player of Alfie's quality so we've got the best deal we can and we move on.....Step forward Angus McDonald!
Pretty much. It's disappointing that we've lost a good player, but this is how a a club like ours survives and prospers. The difficult bit now is to use some of the Mawson money to buy a couple more players with the same sort of potential as he had. Our recruitment over the last coupe of years has been impressive, but there can't be an endless stream of Hourihane's, Winnall's, Mawsons's and Roberts', can there?
Ear ear. Loved Alf on and off the pitch. All round good player and goof lad! Great business model by BFC. Signed him for 'nowt'. Probably wouldn't have achieved what we did last season without him. Sold for £5 mill. Reckon that most non prem clubs will look at us and think we're doing it good. Well done BFC.
The short answer is 'yes'. If we continue to prove our ability to nurture talent, then the brighter talent is more likely to choose us over clubs stifling talent.....ergo endless stream.
5-6 million is a great price for Alfie. I'm not convinced he's worth that much just yet, without a solid championship season behind him. Swansea will expect him to slot into their first team pretty quickly for that price. I suppose we had them over a barrell, given the dosh they got for Ashley Williams - giz aif o that boyo!! Splendid business though. I hope we can now consider the club financially stable and any future player profits will be invested in all areas of the club. Next year we could be looking at a James Bree transfer of similar proportions. That might buy a new West Stand? God forbid..!!
This is an extremely valid point. It only increases our chances of brining in more talent as players look at our development progress.
My gripe is that we received about £7 million forcStones, Mawson had still two years on his contract, and we have just been promoted. There was no need to sell. If it had been Winnall or Hourihane with less than a year left I would have understood the reasoning, but selling at the end of August with no quality replacement........
I'm baffled by any criticism of this deal. £5m+ for a lad we signed for next to nowt 12 months ago. We can't turn business like that down
I understand your point. But we have a plan in place. A plan that has been made available and communication to us as fans made clear what that plan was. We got promoted as a direct result of the first part of that plan. Buy young hungry and cheap. We can't abandon that plan now just cos we got promoted. It lines our pockets and we go again. Hopefully the next ones are not totally cheap (but why not). But slightly more than cheap. Which we might sell for even more. Peterborough must be rolling in it. Ad such could theoretically make a challenge. The trick is now to start balancing forward thinking without abandoning a plan just because we have some success out of it.
my only gripe would be that its happened just as we have 2 games in close succession, but that's the football leagues fault letting it happen as the window is set to close As far as we know Hecky really rates Angus and we have a replacement ready and waiting, we need another of course but how many clubs struggling with massive debt would like to be in our position!
If PC stood at the turnstile giving ten pound notes out for free , there are some who'd be moaning because he wasn't giving twenties.
Twenties he doesn't have to stick to the one note he could have stick a tenner with it and make it thirty, tight sod! Seriously though it could work in our favour this when we are battling other clubs for young talent, just point at Stones and Mawson and tell em we know what we are doing, that could be you!!
