After the sam alladyce story, they'll take one glance and realise the telegraph have backed it up with a half baked story about jimmy floyd, a cellino story!! and an allegedly corrupt assistant coach at the likes of barnsley that no one has ever heard of. Most wont give it a second glance. Todays newspaper, tomorrows fishwrapper, so i wouldnt get too hung about it besmirching the clubs name.
Don't think you could be more wrong. Headlines on Five Live this morning "Barnsley suspend assistant manager" etc. with Cellino and Hasselbank as side story. We'll get this thrown at us from other fans for years.
You are probably right - especially if tomorrow a well known Premiership (or former Prem) manager is featured I dont think much of this will stick to the club - especially as its clearly an individual not club policy Not allowed to use Newspapers as fishwrappers anymore though so it wont be that
Thats a shame, nowt finer than finishing of your chips and scraps to find sam fox's greasy bosoms nestling underneath
You are only tuned it to because bansley was mentioned, if you'd heard it about an assistant at qpr, fulham or brighton you would have tuned out before he got to the next sentence
It has also been the lead story on LBC since late last night and is still the lead story this morning.
I think Tommy wright is probably a decent bloke who has been very naïve . I don't suppose he'll be on a massive wage so when someone throws 5k at him he's foolishly taken it . Bearing in mind the only footage we've seen is what the Telegraph has wanted us to see . Has he done anything illegal ? I'm not sure apart from not paying tax on his earnings . No-one has died here , It'll be someone else tomorrow .
I know I used to like "reading" bits of the News of the World or the Sun papers I would never dream of actually buying Sam Fox wasn't my favorite though - preferred Suzanne Mizzi
Not sure that will be true when he's only an assistant coach. Would have thought that Hasselbaink and Cellino are bigger fish plus these other 8 managers they're talking about. Do opposition fans slag us off for the Dawson match fixing/spot betting allegations? All been forgotten about.
I'm expecting the odd chorus of "One Tommy Wright, there's only one Tommy Wright " at Elland Road on Saturday.
You're right in one sense. Most of the country won't have read the story, but they will have digested the headline. People will be convinced that Barnsley FC as a club have done something dodgy.
To be fair, Sky have pointed out several times that Cryne acted very well at the meeting held on BFC premises and flagged that the practice was illegal. It's Tommy Wright they've correctly pinned this on, and not the club. I fully suspect the allegations to ramp up at other clubs now and they've made it known Premiership clubs are involved. As soon as a big name comes out and a bigger sum than £5k, Tommy Wright will be easily forgotten.
I stand by the fact that this will have brought the club into disrepute. I've already had text saying "even Barnsley are at it". However, the extremely swift dismissal of Tommy Wright helps.
You're being naive if you think people won't give it a second glance. Already had three people in the office quote that Barnsley are taking bungs in football. Massive news and our name is at the forefront of it for now. But, our swift and decisive action should be commended.
Turned Sky Sports news on at 7am this morning, was still breaking news he's been suspended. No doubt it'll be now "Barnsley sack Tommy Wright" instead
Yes, it is... with a slight verbal gaffe that was swiftly change when Hayley Whatsherchops stated he was Manager. Spoken to a couple of friends who follow Newcastle, Leicester and Arsenal. All were positive that the club had acted swiftly and wondered what other names were involved at other clubs.
