...according to Steve Bruce. http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/03/0...s-conor-hourihane-is-proving-to-be-a-bargain/
Take no notice of him . David Moyes brags about the amount he allegedly paid for Stones which is shamefully way off so who cares as long as we get what we asked whether it’s enough or not bugger him
If true shows how easily Barnsley FC are shafted hope the new owners have more gumption when it comes to transfer activity although the initial signs aren't good. Patrick Cryne's problem was he didn't know how to value a player.
They paid about a third of what I would say he was worth because his contract was up in the summer. The bigger problem was - everyone else’s contact was also up in the summer. Hence the position we find ourselves in now.
If I’m right it was widely reported at various meetings of 5m for Hourihane and Bree. Of which 3.5m was for Connor
Nothing strange here. Our owner didn't say how much we got for Hourihane, as far as I'm aware. Steve Bruce doesn't have to defend how much he paid for him. The guy is playing well and £1 million, £2 million or £3 million would still be considered a bargain.
But by that token, and you’ve chosen to believe him it makes BFC liers, it’s seems strange you’d believe someone unconnected with our club
I was always under the impression it was closer to £1m than £3m but I cant remember if that was quoted or if it was hearsay at the time. Either way it's been done to death that we clearly got way under the market value for Winnall and Hourihane. Let us hope if we manage to acquire similar talent in the future circumstances fall better for us and we are proactive.
It's news to me that BFC ever quoted a figure, therefore there isn't a lie as such. There were figures rumoured in the press, which let the club off the hook a bit with some of the fanbase.
Whatever we got for him is irrelevant. He wouldn't have been here this season anyway which is sort of the crux of the problem. Maybe if the new owners had been in place back then it might have been different. We'll never know.
There's more than one quote from Bruce on the subject. There's this one in the Birmingham Mail for instance where he says ""We think he has more goals and assists than anyone else in the division, which for a £1million player from Barnsley is terrific. Well done to him." https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sp...news/aston-villa-conor-hourihane-ten-14342949
