What are the actual rules now? Two free kicks against us last night (think connell and cole) where boot no higher than waist at worst. Nonsense - I get the danger point but blimey you stick your head that low it cant be a foul? Could lead to more danger as a result as you know you stick your head down it's a free kick coming your way. I presume I'm old school and it's a foul in the modern game but really frustrating
Rules currently are it can be deemed as a high boot if the boot is higher than the waist. A tackle waist height = Yellow card, tackle head height or with studs showing = Red card.
Interesting to me was the behaviour of players in setting up following the free kick against Kane. The ref (for once getting it right) was clearly indicating the kick was indirect, but on neither side did the players recognise this. From our side, we had Collins frantically setting up our wall and setting his position for a shot. From their side we had the free kick taker taking a shot which hit the wall and bounced out for a corner. I don't credit the PV player for actually trying to get a deflection off the wall, which is the only way he could have scored.
Were u confident that if they had scored from an indirect free kick, the ref would have disallowed it? I wasn't.
The one Cole got pulled up for was ridiculous. A cross comes into the box at waist height (if not lower to be fair) and he's not allowed to go for it? It's their centre half's choice to put his head there.
It certainly wasn’t waist height the defender put his head in the danger area he had every right (Kitching I think) to go for that
I remember thinking it would be funny watching their celebrations and then disappointment if they had. Ref had his arm up the whole time, so couldn't have got it wrong. I would have been more concerned with Collins parrying it into the net as he tried to save it.
The Kane one was absurd. Ball comes to him, facing goal, at waist height. Jumps to trap it, Vale player launches a dive at it to head it, from behind him. How on earth is that a foul, never mind a booking for dangerous play?
I can't remember which was which, but one of them was clearly a high boot (Connell or Mccarthy?). The one where Cole challenged for the ball on the edge of the 6 yard box was an absolute joke. He's every right to go for the ball, and from where I was, won the ball cleanly.
There was one instance like you mention, first half I think, edge of our area when I think Connel's boot was deemed high. Initially the ref played on; it was only when their player flung himself to the floor that he decided it was a free-kick to them. Almost identical area to the pitch where Scowen was sent off a few years back where the ref initially played on.
