Top keeper played some outstanding games against the Reds for Chester recently passed away

Played against us for Rhyl as well - that infamous cup replay defeat at Old Trafford was one of them

I remember Chester beating us 1-0 at Oakwell and he had an absolute corker of a game, any other keeper and we’d have had 5 or 6.

2nd replay was at Old Trafford, they were always on neutral grounds. I was at all three games, our worst result ever IMHO.

No it was Old Trafford, definitely, as it was a second replay. Ground nearly empty

All 3 games were played in a 9 day spell and I believe a league game may have been played as well !

I’ve looked back to the 70/71 season and during the 9 day period, we managed to beat Bradford at Oakwell as well as 2 draws and a defeat with Rhyl.

I was there also. Old Trafford was ghostly with the lack of atmosphere but I was in awe of the place. Compared to Oakwell and the grounds we visited in the league, Old Trafford was like visiting another planet!

Thank you too young to remember details of Rhyl cup tie but I remember a 1-1 draw with Chester on a Sunday mid 70s and a totally one sided 0-0 draw at Chester in 1980 when Millington was outstanding again but you could see a quality Barnsley team emerging.

No. Old Trafford. Around 3k there if I remember rightly. I went to all 3 games. Why it took em 3 games. Lord only knows.
    But Millington was outstanding tbf.
Died last month 25th. RIP Sir.
His Brother Tony was also a very good goalie. And played at higher levels.
Also played for Wales at senior level.

Wasn't the Chester 0-0 our first ever Sunday game. The keeper was out of this world making save after save.
As an aside I went straight from Oakwell straight to Ritz to watch Bruce Lee in Enter The Dragon.

You might be right I just thought 1 each Barnsley scoring first. Crowd around 8000 and Chester in all yellow kit.
