Yes and no. I don't have many in my collection, but they can be a useful addition. I don't feel inclined to buy Black Sabbath's entire back catalogue, for example, just to get the songs I like, so the Greatest Hits album seemed a better option. Nothing to do with the price, honest (£3). The Kinks Collection double CD seemed a no-brainer for £5 too. I know what you mean, though. I couldn't imagine having Pink Floyd or Bowie or Led Zeppelin as Greatest Hits albums. Each to their own though. I guess someone might feel the same way about Black Sabbath...
I have a few greatest hits / best of albums only because the record company decided to put on a track which can’t be found anywhere else. Sneaky.
I make my own compilations. I'm quite into psychedelic stuff from the sixties. The Byrds, Beatles 65-67, Rolling Stones Satanic Majesties Request, Who Sell Out and a Quick One. A few tracks by the Animals. Pink Floyd See Emily Play and Lucifer Sam. That sort of stuff.
All good stuff. I'm taking much more of an interest in 60s 70s music than I am current stuff. It feels like there's a wealth of old stuff out there, if you can only discover it. I love the music threads on the BBS, some of the recommendations have been terrific. I have this on my Xmas list and I'm really hoping some kind soul will play Santa. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Im-Freak-Baby-Various-Artists/dp/B01FSHQ0LW
agree in the main. The only ones I have are by artists that I have every other album by so would upset my cosmic balance to miss one like the latest style council one
I quite like ambient music but I dont know where one track ends and the next one starts I quite like ambient music but I dont know where one track ends and the next one starts I quite like ambient music but I dont know where one track ends and the next one starts I quite like ambient music but I dont know where one track ends and the next one starts
I think the Beatles couldn't move with the heavier stuff that came in towards the back end of the sixties. Let It Be was a mishmash and I honestly think being heavy didn't suit them. Led Zeppelin had arrived and did it better. Don't get me wrong I like Dig a Pony but just think think it was a group trying to be heavy rather than being heavy.
