Sitting in Barnsley Odeon in 1977 this completely did your head in. Nowt like it had ever been seen before...

A Nightmare on Elm Street. "Freddy" making his glove in a filthy old boiler room, his heavy breathing, noises and demeanour foreshadowing what the character is. As good an opening to any horror film, ever...

That Star Wars scene hooked me in from the beginning - massive fan ever since. Yes Private Ryan amazing too.

Like the Godfather opening scene too

4 weddings and a Funeral - forgot how it started until I sat down to watch in on the box again quite a few years later with Mum and Dad who were most unimpressed!

More seriously the Original Star Wars was superb - I too watched it in Barnsley Odeon in 1977

To truly appreciate that opening sequence, you have to watch 10 years of Blake’s Seven, Dr Who and the original Star Trek first. I also saw it in the Odeon in 1977 and you’re right, never seen anything as spectacular.

Why is C3P0 so camp? And why do the stormtroopers remind me of Jamie Mackie?

True. It also brings home how feeble it is watching films on a phone or even TV. If you haven't seen that opening in a cinema then you haven't seen it at all.

Risky Business. One of the first films I remember watching. Can still watch it today.
