If that was Schopp taking a look at fringe players, they haven't made the grade on tonight's performance. I know its only 1 match but for Victor and George they have had a few opportunities now. So, Victor, Miller, Thompson, Moon... None ready to be in 1st team IMO. think the first two will have to move on permanently whilst the latter two back to u23's or a loan to get some more experience. Benson, defo a player there, altho took a daft booking really. Well done to Bolton today, they were really up for it, Izzy especially. Shame really, would have liked a cup run but, put it behind us and move on to the next match.
Tend to agree. Halme wasn't great and neither was Williams. In fact the only highlights for me in players pushing to get into the first team squad were Cole and Thompson.
Thought Thompson did OK. A very average game with some good passages of play - nothing to worry the first team though.
Benson looks to have real football brain and the more players we have on his wavelength the better we will be.
Woodrow was onside in the first couple of minutes. Nobody on here has mentioned it. Different game. Officials get worse every year.
We were high up and on halfway, it looked onside. Having seen all the replays, he's clearly on. It's a shocker of a call.
Well I couldn’t comment being stuck behind the goal but the referee plumbed new depths of ineptitude tonight. I couldn’t believe how one-sided he was. Our first decision from him brought a huge cheer and I noted that it had taken until the 56th minute for us to get a free kick. This after seeing our players pulled and pushed and tripped all over the place and the decisions going in Bolton’s favour. Bad night tonight. Saturday will be better.
My only gripe tonight is we lost on penalties. Are we that crap that we can't beat Bolton over 90 mins? Are we that crap we can't take penalties? Is it all in my head? Joking aside my Spackometer is twitching simply because Schopp thinks Miller is a footballer. I hope I'm wrong but no goals, not knowing your arsehole from your elbow and being sideways n' backwards means relegation. One positive...no Kevin Donovan. Second positive...there int one.
Spackman, Spackman give us a wave. Nice one Spackers nice one son. Nice one Spackers... i'm gunna be proved right.
Over the last 10 years, we've been good in about one League Cup first round. It's nothing to worry about, and don't take too much from it. At this stage, it's only a glorified friendly.
Do the refs and assistants see these at half and full time ? Are contentious decisions shown in their dressing rooms or left for them to see for themselves at home etc ?
They are assessed by their own people, the observer from PGMOL. And given ratings by both clubs the next day. No idea what happens beyond that. But if Saturday's was marginal, where Frieser might have been a smidgen offside (impossible to tell without VAR), then last night was an absolute disgrace. There's enough space between Woodrow and the defender to stick another player in. It's awful officiating. We go one up there and then and we absolutely annihilate them.
Is there a still the point Woodrow taps in? He's well onside and the goal should have stood, clearly. I just wonder if the bolton player nearest the linesman has come out, so as Woodrow taps in, he looks well offside and the linesman has just completely forgotten the point where Victor heads it. I'm assuming if you go off the pitch without permission, you're no longer considered active or interfering? Used to be the case a long time back that if you were off the pitch behind the touchline you could be flagged, and note Miller is over the touchline (though nowhere near the ball having crossed it). Shame. Would have been nice for Miller to have got an assist and for Woodrow to be up and running after the stick he gets from some quarters.
